🧒Jake, age 4, would scream when he was told to pack away his toys.

💬So, we taught him to ask for “More time” by pointing to a visual.
--> he got 5 more minutes t
--> then we taught him to follow "pack away"
⭐️now he transitions without screaming 80% of the time!

During this process:
➡️Jake learned to communicate
➡️Jake was empowered with the opportunity to have control (therefore reducing his anxiety and opposition)
➡️Jake learned to tolerate less preferred demands

🤩Jake’s now confidently asking for what he needs—no tears required. His parents say it’s been life-changing!

❓"Is Reinforcement Just Bribery?"❓

💥Let’s bust a common myth I hear ALL the time…

🗯"I don’t want to bribe my child… shouldn’t they just do it because it’s the right thing?”🗯

👌Totally valid — but here’s the truth: reinforcement used right, isn’t bribery.

✅Reinforcement helps learning. It teaches us what’s worth repeating.
✅Your child isn’t being manipulative — they just need clear, consistent reinforcement to build new behaviors.
✅Reinforcement helps build confidence and success 👍

😣Transitions are really difficult for a lot of children with ASD.
⁉️BUT WHY!?

💥Because they usually have to stop something they are comfortable doing and do something that is less preferred.

I hear you… “So, what do I do?”

1️⃣Give warning - use a timer
2️⃣Use “First / Then”
3️⃣Give 5 sec countdown immediately before the transition
4️⃣Pair the transition with something calming / enjoyable - blow bubbles, play their fav song while transitioning
5️⃣Gently guide them to follow through with the transition
6️⃣Remain calm, grounded and neutral

🌟Don’t over-explain
🌟You can acknowledge - say “I know this is tricky”

* Practice easy transitions often with a positive outcome so that your child learns that transitions aren’t always bad.

📚😟 Back-to-School Worries? You’re Not Alone

The school year is creeping up and if you’re anything like most parents I talk to, you’re already wondering:

➡️ Will my child handle the transition?
➡️ What if meltdowns, aggression, or refusals increase?
➡️ How do I set my child (and myself) up for success?

Here’s the truth: back-to-school doesn’t have to mean chaos. The key is being proactive instead of reactive.
📝That means building simple routines, teaching coping strategies before problems happen, and having a plan in place for when challenges come up.

💡 When we focus on prevention + pre-teaching = smoother mornings, fewer battles, and more confidence for both you and your child.

✨ Imagine sending your child to school knowing you’ve already set them up with the tools they need to manage their big feelings. That peace of mind is possible.

👉 If you’re feeling that back-to-school stress creeping in, I’d love to help.
