The Community Health Social Committee hosted a Blood Tribe Department Volleyball Tournament that ran from February to April this year. Departments registered, and games started February 19th, 2026, with the Championship game held on April 30th, 2026. BTDH Community Health and BTDH Facility Ops ended up together in the final. Facility Ops came out on top as champions.

A huge thank you to Blood Tribe Recreation for partnering with us and letting us use the Multi-Purpose court at noon. Congrats to BTDH Facility Ops, and thank you to all the Blood Tribe departments listed below for submitting a team and participating.

Join us for the National Indigenous Peoples Month Opening Ceremonies, hosted by the Blood Tribe Department of Health. This year’s theme, “Embracing Cultural Safety”, focuses on the patient's experience, where unique Indigenous histories, identities, and worldviews are honored.

We want to send out congratulations to all Red Road Reclamation runners who took part in the Relay for Recovery.

The Red Road Reclamation Relay for Recovery organizer, Dustin Dick, brought together Treaty 7 runners who covered 611km across Blackfoot territory, starting and ending in Siksika, and including Tsuut’ina, Piikani, and Blood Tribe/Kainai.

The Red Road Reclamation Run is a grassroots recovery movement that promotes, supports, and raises awareness of the recovery journey taken by runners and is supported by communities, volunteers, runners, families, and the Nations visited.

The mission of the Red Road Reclamation focuses on the recovery movement, One Goal, Many Nations.

“We set out to bring Nations together through one shared goal, to carry a message of recovery, hope, healing, and unity, and to bring that message home.” Red Road Reclamation – Recovery Movement.

Please be advised of the following important changes to the Medical Transportation program and Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) services.

Off-reserve clients are now required to deal directly with the Edmonton Referral Unit for all medical transportation needs. Please contact the Edmonton Referral Unit directly for any medical transportation requests or reimbursements going forward. The number to the Edmonton Referral Unit is 1-800-514-7106.

Reimbursement forms can now be submitted online for faster processing.

Reimbursement forms are available online please visit the NIHB website here: https://www.sac-isc.gc.ca/eng/1592232608805/1592234588002

Physical (paper) reimbursement forms remain available through the Medical Transportation office for those who need them.

Express Scripts Canada delivers Health Information and Claims Processing Services on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada’s NIHB Program. Community members using Express Scripts are encouraged to begin submitting their receipts for reimbursement through the online portal.

BTDH Celebrates Our Amazing Nurses During National Nurses Week

The Blood Tribe Department of Health (BTDH) proudly recognizes and celebrates the dedicated nurses who care for our community every day. Your kindness, patience, and dedication make a lasting difference for the lives of so many across the Kainai Nation.

BTDH currently has over 40 Registered Nurses, 14 Licensed Practical Nurses, 1 Clinical Nurse Educator, 3 Nurse Managers, 2 Directors, and 1 CEO, who all have expertise in the nursing field. Bonnie Weasel Moccasin is our longest serving Nurse Manager with 34 years and 7 months; Registered Nurses Sandra Scout (20 Years), Shauna Scout (19 years); Director Lori Healy (28 years) and Sandra Shade (26 years).

Our nurses play a vital role in promoting health and wellness for our Nation. Through their knowledge, commitment, and kindness, they help our community members and families navigate their health and wellness with dignity and care.

BTDH extends our heartfelt gratitude to all nurses for the important work you do and for the positive impact you make for our community.
