How you experience your trauma can feel different from one day to the next.

Sometimes you will be triggered by something and be taken right back to a specific moment.

Sometimes you might feel as if you’ve moved forward a step and the ache isn’t as deep.

Sometimes you’ll have a poor night’s sleep, and your mind might spiral to include your trauma.

It is normal to experience these different types of shifts. I want to remind you that this doesn’t mean you’ve lost progress or will always react this way. Trauma gets filtered through so many lenses, and each day you might see a new one.

My therapeutic approach involves us working together to find the best strategies and support for you. This approach can include looking inward and kindling a spiritual practice.

Ritual, prayer, or meditation can all calm a nervous system that is triggered by uncertainty. When we don't have all the answers, when we feel anger at why a loved one passed away, or when an illness returns, these practices may help to bring some peace and comfort.

If it is applicable, I like to ask clients about their religion and spirituality and see if it sustains them and how it does this. Just like any step on your healing journey, you get to define your relationship with God, Goddess, the Universe, nature, or whatever speaks to you.

With firsthand experience of pregnancy loss and secondary infertility, I want you to know that when we work together, I understand your grief and anger at the situation.

After my own experiences, I disassociated from my body because I felt I couldn’t control it and that it had betrayed me. I hid my body under baggy clothing as much as possible, rationalizing that if I could forget about it, then maybe the nightmare of pregnancy loss and secondary infertility wouldn’t be real and would instead disappear.

If this rings true for you, book a 20-minute no-pressure consultation with me. Just click the link in my bio and we’ll discuss how best we might work together.

Getting out of the house for social activities might feel like the last thing you want to do during the cold and dark winter months. However, connection and community are powerful ways to support your mental health.

Give yourselves permission to start small: call instead of texting, text instead of calling (if that feels safer), chat with the person making your coffee at the café, or prioritize one-on-one interactions over big group events.

If you feel like you have limited capacity right now and want more structured help, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to provide the light in the darkness for you during this season.

There are all kinds of experiences built into relationships: the ones from childhood, how we communicate, societal gender roles, and even physical survival responses (like fight-or-flight).

In any session I have with couples, we approach their relationship and any challenges from a place of curiosity and not judgment. Together we’ll create a safe space that helps both of you to open up to new dialogues on issues you might feel stuck on.

Strength isn't always loud. Sometimes it's the quiet choice to seek healing, to nurture yourself, and to keep going.

Happy International Women's Day! At Brightspace Psychotherapy, we see you. We honour the incredible resilience, complexity, and quiet power within every woman's story.

Investing in your mental health is a powerful act of self-celebration. Today, we invite you to acknowledge how far you've come. You don't have to carry the mental load alone.

Healing isn’t a straight line, and it’s rarely a quiet one.

Today, March 1st, marks both Self-Injury Awareness Day and Zero Discrimination Day. It’s a reminder that everyone is fighting a battle you may not see, and everyone deserves a space free from judgment. If you’ve ever felt the need to hide your struggle to avoid "the look," this is your reminder: your pain is valid, and your worth is non-negotiable.

Small acts of self-compassion are the building blocks of recovery. Today, try to speak to yourself like you would a dear friend.

Drop a 🤍 in the comments if you’re choosing kindness for yourself today.

Just because we’ve turned the calendar doesn’t mean the grief, pain, and loss from last year disappears.

The first few months of a new year may arrive with a lot of messaging around fresh starts, a new you, and goal setting. And that may make you feel overwhelmed or maybe like you’re already failing because you feel as if you can’t let go.

I want you to know that you don’t have to become a newer, shinier version of yourself, but you also don’t have to feel stuck. Reach out, and let’s find the best approach to support you in therapy sessions together.

Let me introduce my new logo! Here’s a little bit of my story behind the change and why I chose a phoenix:

With every one of my own experiences of loss and trauma, the foundations of who I am changed, and each time I had to rise from the ashes, as it were, and rediscover who I am and what I am capable of. To me, the phoenix symbolizes renewal, rebuilding, and a rebirth of ourselves on the healing journey.

And I want that for you too. In our sessions together, we'll find a way forward that moves you through your experiences and supports who you are.
