I put together a price comparison between popular Sephora products and ZO Skin Health.

Each product selected targets similar skin concerns, is suited for comparable skin types, and claims to deliver similar results.

When you look beyond the label — and truly compare the formulation science, ingredient technology, concentration levels, and cost per use , is Sephora actually saving you money?

To be clear, Sephora certainly carries products at lower price points. However, when we evaluate true “like-for-like” comparisons, the difference in cost isn’t as significant as it may initially seem.

This is a perfect representation of trusting the process. Within 24 hours the appearance of her skin made significant improvement.

The most important thing to remember is everyone’s skin is different. Immediately post treatment your skin may look significantly less, or more red than this. Everybody’s skin heals at a different rate, and the amount of pinpoint bleeding is completely dependent on skin type, age, and you as an individual.

It is important to ensure you are receiving treatments from a provider who is educated, experienced, using professional products, and a Health Canada approved medical device.

Let’s talk ANTICIPATED Reactions. You might be thinking “Kelsie, what does that even mean?” Let’s dive into it.

An anticipated reaction commonly occurs after the use of retinol, and are NORMAL and EXPECTED. The severity differs greatly from person to person based on the skins sensitivity to retinol, the strength of the retinol, and the frequency of use.

These reactions happen because retinol works at a cellular level, speeding up skin cell turnover. The faster skin cells are produced, the faster the dead ones shed from the surface of the skin. This is a temporary disruption of the skin barrier, as we thin the dead skin layer called the Stratum Corneum. (Don’t worry, it does NOT thin your skin. Tricky, I know!)

This process can cause mild, moderate, and severe irritation, flakiness, redness, itching, and sensitivity. It’s important to note that this is NORMAL, and TO BE EXPECTED. These symptoms are all temporary.

While not everyone has a severe anticipated reaction, there is always some visible response on the skin when beginning a retinol. There are tips and tricks that can be used to help minimize these side affects, and your provider is always happy to give you some guidance through the process!

*this particular photo shows a fairly aggressive reaction, and within 36 hours of the proper care and calming the side affects are almost completely gone!*

Did you know?

Numerous clients have informed me they have been able to get their treatments with me covered (up to a certain $$ amount per year) through their insurance benefits, similar to coverage for Massage Therapy & Chiropractic appointments.

Every insurance provider plan is different, and has different requirements. If this is something that peaks your interest, I encourage you to look into your benefits plan to see if you have coverage!

A random selfie from my phone, to highlight the treatments I’ve done within the passed year.

At 34 years old, my focus is largely on skin health. Maintaining collagen, and working to stimulate as much collagen production as possible- look at it as “banking it” for my future self. I’ve had filler injections in multiple places in my face in the passed, and looking forward I want to maintain the results I’ve worked so hard to achieve.

Botox every 3-4 months with the queen .byb
I’ve done 2, and going for 2 more vials of Sculptra with Tay Who is incredibly knowledgeable and talented.
I microneedle myself on a regular basis to stimulate collagen, but also to treat discoloration from the odd breakout that I still get.

The main focus is on preserving what’s there. Keeping my skin strong, healthy, and aging gracefully. I can’t fight genetics and there’s underlying damage caused from old bad skin habits, so preventing now is the key to maintaining the results I want to see long term.
