April is Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know women are at a higher risk for vision problems that can impact daily life? Conditions like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and dry eye disease are more common in women.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why? A few reasons. Women tend to live longer—and more years means more wear and tear on the eyes. But hormone fluctuations also play a big role. These shifts can affect vision during key stages like:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pregnancy – Hormonal changes can cause fluid retention, which may lead to temporary blurry vision.
Menopause – Dry eye is especially common during peri- and postmenopausal years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The good news? Many eye conditions are preventable! A few simple steps—like eating a balanced diet, staying active, wearing UV-protective sunglasses, and scheduling regular eye exams—can help protect your sight for years to come.
