Introducing your 2025 Diane Moore Creation Reward recipient Reequal Smith ()!
Created in 2007, this award honours Live Art Dance’s founder, Diane Moore. Diane was deeply passionate about stimulating and promoting new dance creations and was inspiring in her tremendous support for Atlantic Canadian artists. The award is given in memory of Diane’s remarkable contributions to the growth of the local dance ecology.

Reequal Smith – Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Cultural Leader
Reequal Smith is a multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, and educator originally from The Bahamas, now based in Prince Edward Island. As the Founder and Artistic Director of Oshun Dance Studios, she seamlessly merges her Bahamian heritage with Canadian dance culture, creating a dynamic fusion of Afro-Caribbean movement, contemporary flow, and funk jazz. An alumna of Holland College’s School of Performing Arts, Reequal has over a decade of performance experience and is deeply engaged in community arts initiatives.
Beyond her contributions to dance, she serves as the Program and Events Coordinator for the Black Cultural Society of PEI and the Administrator\/Outreach Coordinator for the Canadian Women of Colour Leadership Network. A strong advocate for diversity in the arts, she holds leadership roles with The Fringe Festival (PEI), Fusion Charlottetown, and Kinetic Studio in Halifax. Her artistic work spans festivals, community projects, music videos, and documentaries, amplifying Black and BIPOC voices across the Maritimes. In recognition of her impact, she was awarded the 2025 Kerri Wynne MacLeod Women of Impact Award in the Arts.
As a fire dancer, choreographer, and mentor, Reequal is dedicated to creating inclusive spaces for artists and youth. Through Oshun Dance, she continues to celebrate the rhythms of the Caribbean, fostering cultural connection and artistic excellence in PEI’s evolving dance scene.
