Meet Matt Morrison, a CAMPT-certified Physiotherapist! 👋
Born and raised in Charlottetown, Matt is a Dalhousie graduate who has moved back to PEI after many years of working in Alberta. Since graduating, Matt has achieved training/certification in:
- Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy and fellow with the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists (FCAMPT)
- Functional Dry Needling and Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)
- Edna King’s “The Big Three” course, focusing on rehabilitation of hamstring, quadricep, and calf injuries
- Blood flow restriction training
Matt’s experience as a former varsity basketball player with Holland College and Dalhousie University, along with his own ACL tear rehab, have sparked his interest in sports physiotherapy. Matt has worked with many athletes post-operatively and in return to sport planning at varying levels including NHL, U Sport and CCAA.
Matt believes an accurate assessment and a well-rounded treatment plan are key to helping reduce pain and improve activity. A precise diagnosis including the pain “generator” and the “driver”, helps him choose the best path of care for everyone. His treatments use a combination of soft tissue techniques, dry needling, manual therapy, and exercise to help patients return to full function.
Given his FCAMPT certification, Matt has a special interest in spine-related injuries. Taking 5-6 years to complete, this designation focuses on intensive training in manual therapy and advanced clinical reasoning. He has experience working in advanced spinal care centres focusing on collaboration with physiatry and sports medicine and is authorized by the College of Physiotherapy PEI to perform spinal manipulation.
Outside of work, Matt is part of the coaching staff for PEI’s U15 Men’s basketball team. As a former athlete himself, Matt’s favourite ways to stay active include going to the gym, playing basketball, and golfing.
