IRS RRTs Enjoyed the CSRT Conference this weekend at Delta Hotel, PEI Convention Center. We had opportunity to learn, network, meet vendors, learn about new product, reconnect with previous colleagues and classmates, and explore Charlottetown. Thank you to all the organizers, participants, and our Charlottetown Hosts! We had a wonderful weekend!!

Congratulations Dr. Cameron!

Last Thursday, the Dr. Tom Moore Award was presented to longtime PCH physician Dr. Scott Cameron. Doctor Cameron has recently transitioned to a Hospitalist role at PCH, but is best known for his many years spent treating patients in the Emergency Department (ED) and as the head of Emergency Medicine. In fact, Dr. Steven MacNeill calls him the “Father of Emergency Medicine” in Summerside as Dr. Cameron was the first full-time ED doctor at PCH; prior to this, emergency needs were fulfilled by a rotation of physicians. During the presentation, Scott was described as a “steady and steadying” presence at the hospital, demonstrating reliability, calm, experience, and pragmatism in his many roles throughout his career at PCH as well as with the Medical Society and the Department of Health and Wellness. During his acceptance, Dr. Cameron offered his thanks to his support network – his colleagues, the team at PCH, and the team at home – most notably his wife Susan. We offer our deepest congratulations to our friend, Dr. Scott Cameron.

The Dr. Tom Moore Award is awarded annually to Prince County Hospital employees or physicians who display characteristics of dedication and achievement in their area of work. It is intended to honor someone who contributes positively to the workplace and demonstrates a high level of skill in their chosen area. This prestigious award was named after its first recipient in 1991, Dr. Tom Moore, who was such a positive and powerful role model at Prince County Hospital for over 30 years.

Island seniors will be able to receive the free Shingrix™ vaccine, to prevent shingles, beginning January 2022.

The free Shingrix™ vaccine (two doses) will be available to Islanders aged 65 years and over at community pharmacies across Prince Edward Island. The cost is being covered by the provincial government.

We recognize the vital role that Nurse Practitioners (NPs) play in our health-care system and celebrate the work of our NP members during Nurse Practitioner Week, November 7-13.

National Nurse Practitioner Week is held annually to celebrate these exceptional health care providers and to remind lawmakers of the importance of removing outdated barriers to practice so that NPs are able to practice to the full extent of their experience and education.

Congratulations to Dr. Morash, Dr. Millar and Dr. Holland. We appreciate all that you do for our Island communities.

Join us in celebrating World Family Doctor Day. We are deeply thankful for the family physicians we have here on PEI. They play a vital role in health care and we appreciate all they do for Islanders.

As part of this day, three Island family doctors will be receiving special awards from the PEI College of Family Physicians: Dr. Bernie Holland, Montague; Dr. Megan Miller, Stratford; and our very own Dr. John Morash, Summerside! The Awards of Excellence recognizes members at a national level who have made outstanding contributions in a specific area such as patient care, community service, research, or other academic elements of family medicine.
We extend a huge congratulations to all recipients, but especially to Dr. Morash on being recognized with this Award of Excellence!

Outside of his practice, John Morash also a physician in the PCH Emergency Department and a member of the PCH Foundation Board of Directors, not to mention a dedicated husband and father. Dr. Morash, thank you for all you do at PCH and beyond these walls. Your thorough care and kind demeanor are appreciated here at PCH.
