🏀 Bigger than basketball.

The UPEI Athletics & Recreation Men’s Basketball Team are proudly wearing OW on their jerseys in memory of Oscar Waugh, starting with their home opener on Friday, September 26. A symbol of hope and a commitment to raising awareness for the Oscar Waugh Friends Foundation, they are making a difference for children and families whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Because of them, it’s more than a game. 💚

Inspired by Oscar’s courage and love for sport, they recently visited the pediatric unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It was a powerful reminder of the impact community champions like Oscar’s foundation, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, and many others, have on our health care system.

If you needed critical care, you’d want to know a hospital bed was available for you.

At Health PEI using hospital beds across the healthcare system helps ensure that everyone gets the care they need when they need it.

This might mean being transferred to a different hospital at some point during your care. If so, you can rest assured that the quality of your care will remain unchanged.

World Patient Safety Day – “Safe care for every newborn and every child”

Every child deserves safe, high-quality health care from the beginning.

On September 17, Health PEI joins the global community in recognizing World Patient Safety Day, established by the WHO in 2019 to raise awareness and drive action on patient safety. Each year highlights a key area needing urgent attention.

This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of safe care for newborns and children, who rely on adults to advocate for their health.

Even one safety incident can have lasting effects. That’s why it’s vital to ensure care is safe, timely, and tailored to each child’s needs.

Everyone has a role to play — parents, caregivers, health care providers, and community members alike.
