SSHWI’s Board of Directors is saddened by the passing of Elmer MacDonald. Elmer was a founding member or our organization and served six years on our board. Without his passion, perseverance, and dedication to community primary care in the South Shore area would not be where it is today. Our sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Elmer ♥️

To show our appreciation for the healthcare workers at the Crapaud clinic and pharmacy, SSHWI held a family fun day this past weekend. Staff and their family members were able to curl, skate and enjoy each other’s company while having a coffee and muffin. Lunch was also provided.

Thank you to the staff at the Crapaud Curling Club and South Shore Actiplex for being so accommodating, and to the Province of PEI for supporting this event. Most importantly, thank you to all the clinic and pharmacy staff – we hope you all had a great time and we are truly grateful for the dedication you show every day in providing healthcare to our community.

Annual General Meeting

I would like to correct an oversight on my part during the meeting when retiring Board members were acknowledged and thanked for their service.

Heather Dixon has served on the Board for 6 years, and during that period has contributed significantly to the return of primary health care to the South Shore community.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Heather for her commitment to health care and the community in general. We have all benefited from your commitment, and wish you well.

Who We Are

As a registered charity, the role of South Shore Health & Wellness Inc. (SSHWI) is to promote, support and advocate for continued health care services for the residents of the South Shore area of Prince Edward Island. Central to this role is the re-establishment of a healthcare facility in Crapaud, with one physician working in collaboration with two nurse practitioners.

Although the South Shore Health & Wellness Clinic is physically located in Crapaud, its primary purpose is to restore medical services to the former patients of Dr. Visser and recognize the 60-year history of the presence of a medical doctor in the area.

The clinic’s catchment area includes Bedeque, Albany, Borden Carleton, Tryon, Crapaud, Victoria, Hampton, Desable, Bonshaw, Augustine Cove, Argyle Shore, Kellys Cross, Westmoreland, Breadalbane, Canoe Cove and points in between. This catchment area has a population of 8,000 residents, approximately 2,800 of whom do not have a family doctor.

SSHWI is managed by an elected board of directors -- currently:
