Those we love don’t go away,
they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard but always near,
still loved, still missed
and held so dear.

MacLean Funeral Home was founded by the late N.D. MacLean in 1923. He was active in his community as a Rotarian, Mason and a member of the Y’s Men, holding offices locally and internationally.

He was a trustee and former Clerk of Session at the Kirk of St. James.

After he retired from funeral service in 1959, he went on to be the administrator of the PEI Hospital.

He died in March 1985 and was interred in the Calvin Presbyterian Church, Mermaid.

The advertisement featured was printed in The Guardian on September 29, 1923 shortly after the funeral home opened.

*Fun Fact: N.D. was a co-founder of the Rotary Radio Auction.

A necessary reminder about the power of truth.

Our children deserve to receive age appropriate information about grief and loss. It's how they develop their skills when faced with future losses.

As adults we may not have all the answers to the really BIG questions, but honesty goes a long way.

Our Story

MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel, locally owned and operated by Allison and Gail Swan, has served the Island community for over three-quarters of a century.

Situated on Ole King Square, the funeral home is only minutes away from Province House, the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the beautiful waterfront that is so much a part of the charm of Prince Edward Island’s capital city. The funeral home was founded in the early 1920’s by N.D. MacLean, who was the first licensed embalmer on Prince Edward Island. It is interesting to note that as early as the late 1800’s a funeral home was located on this site.

For a Life Worth Celebrating.
