It’s not red—it’s golden🩸✨

Plasma is a part of your blood that's used to help treat serious illnesses like cancer and immune deficiencies. When you donate plasma, you’re giving those in need a better chance at healing and recovery. It takes a little more time—but what you give (and get) is deeply human.

CHEO’s leadership team stepped out of the halls of the children’s hospital and into the donor chair this month. Led by CHEO CEO Dr. Vera Etches, the CHEO Partners for Life contributed towards our goal of 1 million new donors! As leaders in pediatric healthcare, the CHEO team knows how important donors are to the children that they work with everyday – for some, it was their first time, for all, it was deeply rewarding. Thanks, CHEO!

At the start of one life, you could save another! Donating cord blood is safe, simple, and doesn’t change your birth plan – including delayed cord clamping. Cord blood is collected from the placenta after birth, and if it’s not donated, it’s thrown away as medical waste.

When cord blood is collected and banked with the Canadian Blood Services Cord Blood Bank, it is available to anyone in Canada and around the world who may be looking for a lifesaving stem cell match.

Parents at select hospitals can choose to donate cord blood. Learn more at blood.ca/CordBlood.

When you’re O-negative, you’re everyone’s type! What does that mean? When seconds count, O-negative blood is the first type that’s reached for. That’s because anyone can receive a transfusion of O–negative blood, regardless of their blood type – cool, right?

It can save anyone in a crisis. But when it’s your blood, it’s more than saving someone else. It’s knowing part of you was there when it mattered most. No wonder O-negative donors have earned the title of Universal Donor!

And you know… emergencies don’t take a summer break. Donations often do.
If you're O-negative, you can be the one they’ll never know, but never forget.

When a grizzly bear attacked Colin in the remote B.C. backcountry, it wasn’t just paramedics who helped save his life.

It was you.

O-neg blood was on board of the air ambulance, and because of it, Colin made it to the hospital.

It all happened in the summertime. And with red blood cells lasting 42 days, the donor who helped Colin would’ve given in late June or sometime in July.

Whether you come in before a barbecue or after coming back from your beach trip… when the blood is yours, donating isn’t just about saving someone else. It’s about the quiet reward of knowing a part of you was there.

O-negative donors are always needed — and summer is no exception. If you're O-negative, your blood can be part of anyone’s story, anytime.
