"Everything we do in emergency medicine depends on teamwork, and the equipment donors help fund is a vital part of that team.”
— Dr. Spencer Brown, QEH Emergency Physician

Today, we gathered for a small ribbon cutting and open house to officially celebrate the new QEH Comfort Suite! 🔑🎉

Thanks to the generosity of Bevan Enterprises and Bevan Bros. Ltd., this dedicated suite will provide a safe, welcoming space for patients and families facing urgent or exceptional needs.

This two-bedroom apartment reflects what’s possible when community comes together — from the Bevans’ incredible gift to the many Islanders who supported our 48-hour fundraising campaign, and the local businesses who stepped in to help furnish the space with essentials and warm touches.

In less than a month, the Comfort Suite is ready to welcome its first families. Patients will be assigned by referral from the QEH Social Work Department, which will identify those with the greatest need.

We are deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion Islanders have shown. Your support makes it possible for families to focus on what matters most: being close together, closer to care. 🧡

After more than three decades working in the ICU, Paul Higginbotham has seen just about everything. No two days are ever the same. Some are calm, some overwhelming, and some change in ways no one expects. But every day, Paul and his colleagues rely on their training, each other, and the equipment at their fingertips, to deliver the best possible care.

What many may not realize is that nearly all of the hospital’s equipment — from defibrillators and ventilators to specialized beds and operating tables — is made possible through the generosity of donors to the QEH Foundation.

This season of giving, consider giving the gift of care. A donation of any size supports our dedicated care teams by funding urgent needs in critical areas such as the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Mental Health & Addictions Care.

We are deeply grateful to announce a transformational $1 million gift from Kevin and Kim Ladner to establish the Kevin & Kim Ladner Endowment Fund in honour of their fathers, Cecil Ladner and Francis Reid.

Inspired by Cecil and Francis’ legacy, this gift reflects a deep belief in community, connection, and giving back.

This first-of-its-kind endowment at the QEH is dedicated to creating welcoming, restorative spaces for both staff and patients and will provide annual income to support upgrades and beautification of hospital spaces — including the cafeteria.

Yesterday, with hospital staff and members of the Ladners’ family and friends in attendance, we proudly unveiled the Ladner Reid Commons in recognition of this extraordinary generosity. This welcoming space will serve as a lasting tribute to Cecil Ladner and Francis Reid, while strengthening the hospital environment for generations to come.

The Ladner Reid Commons encompasses The Abegweit Room, a private dining room, a music corner, and an outdoor terrace where staff can enjoy fresh air during breaks.

This is a powerful step forward in ensuring our hospital environment supports those who give and receive care every day. Thank you, Kevin and Kim, for your extraordinary leadership and generosity. 🧡
