Another clip from our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program Q&A:

We can’t guarantee you’ll pass the course if more than one weekend is missed. Yes, we can catch you up one-to-one at a rate of $36/ hour and you can make up any other required hours, but so much is missed in the group setting.

This will be looked at on a case by case basis. But if you miss more than one weekend, it’s really easy to get behind.

You also will miss valuable time bonding with your group - one of the sweet benefits of the training. I still keep in touch with some of the friends I met in my 200-hour training 17 years ago!

Just paying tuition does not mean you receive a certificate at the end of the program.

We are a private school (that means T2202 tax tuition forms are issued by the way).

This is a training and not a retreat. We want to ensure you are ready to teach to the public safely and confidently (if teaching is what you end up pursuing).

Even though some participants get stressed out about the exams, we do a review before every one, take you through the structure and are very clear about what to study.

Are you ready to take a deep dive? Sign up today. Maritimeyoga.ca

Deadline to register is August 12th, 2026.

Another clip from our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program Q&A

I started Maritime Yoga in 2014. I LOVE facilitating and organizing this training.

Ayurveda is a topic I also share, which I wish was a part of my 200-hour training. It really is the “why” we do certain Yoga practices and provides participants with some valuable self care tools.

I always say this is where you “dip your toes”, but hopefully not where you stop learning about Yoga. To me, it’s a lifelong study and practice.

Can’t wait to share our passion with you in September!

Meet Erika Killam from She is our Asana Queen! She breaks down all the poses in a way that is unique to her background and style.

She is the best of the best when it comes to the Asana. I’m so happy she has been with us since the beginning and is back to share her amazing knowledge!

I’m so excited to give you more details about my class for the Island Tides Festival

Friday, June 19th 3pm-5pm
Creatures of Habit - Finding New Pathways with Breath, Movement and Mindfulness

We are creatures of habit—how we breathe, how we move, how we hold tension, and even how we respond to the world around us. But what if the patterns we’re repeating no longer serve us?

Join me for a SomaYoga experience (Somatics + Yoga) designed to bring awareness to the unconscious habits living in your body. You’ll learn a more efficient, supportive way to breathe—and how to make it your new default.

Through gentle somatic movements, we’ll uncover where you tend to hold tension and how to release it with intention. We’ll even take a closer look at something you do every day without thinking: the way you walk.

This class is full of practical insights you can take off the mat and into daily life—subtle shifts that create real change.

There’s some great early bird deals until May 31st. Full schedule at islandtidesfestival.com

I’m a big fan of the podcast. Recently, he had an episode titled “Science Based Meditation Tools to Improve your Brain and Health” with Dr. Richard Davidson.

Something that was said on that podcast really stuck with me.

I know it’s very common when people start a meditation practice they can feel like they’re not “good” at it, or they feel anxious or stressed.

The analogy used on the show was “Lactate for the Mind”: Meditation acts like emotional weightlifting. Just as muscle burns during exercise, the mind feels “stressed” when forced to focus. This discomfort is the mechanism by which your brain develops stress resilience.

So this stress or anxiety is not a sign of failure but rather a sign that it’s working!

Come join me Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm to explore Yoga Nidra and Meditation
