Separation and divorce impacts mental health more than people expect.
Not because you’re weak.
Not because you’re doing it wrong.
Not because your relationship ending was the wrong decision.
It’s because separation and divorce activates multiple stressors at the same time.
Loss of identity - ongoing exposure to conflict and uncertainty - parenting while dysregulated - legal or financial pressures - grief - learning how to function while being emotionally overwhelmed.
Many think once the relationship ends, the stress ends. Although there may be relief, that can also coexist with sadness, fear, anger, or shame.
Separation often moves stress. It doesn’t end it.
If separation and divorce is taking a toll on your mental health, you’re not failing, you’re responding to something that is really hard.
Support makes a difference. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
