We all need water….

With continuing drought conditions and seasonal spikes in demand, you may want to consider voluntarily conserving water to preserve your water source and the water table for you and your neighbour's.

Water table levels, rainfall statistics, consumption trends are all resources we can use to build statistics-driven and research-based community options. Current regional conditions, along with available data , reflect that the weather is trending towards significantly drier summer and fall seasons.

I don’t need to tell you that the lack of water, both potable and other for necessary household requirements, is a daily challenge in many ways.

Preserving water for essential uses provides many benefits.

It reduces the strain on the water table and supports environmental stewardship. Every resident has a role to play and taking small steps in water conservation can lead to a big difference.

Actionable steps that the public can take include:

* Water Collection barrels under rain gutter spouts.

* Fixing leaks promptly (toilets, faucets, irrigation).

* Using water-efficient appliances.

* Consider installing a water collection system or cistern system.

You may be eligible for low-interest financing for water supply systems through the Municipality's upgrades programs. Please inquiry at the Chester Municipal Office if you have a dry well or limited resources to see if you qualify.

The Municipality is not implementing mandatory water use restrictions, however, the cooperation of residents is greatly appreciated, especially in the Village of Chester where many wells are already dry.

Precipitation data shared with Council suggests little rain and until water levels start to show positive recovery, please consider a voluntary water conservation plan.

The consequences of losing our individual water sources could trigger many issues, such as: inability to access a reliable source of water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning; increase in scarcity of water sources; the clean movement of water; decline in personal hygiene, etc.

How to Stay Informed or Get Help

* Municipal water statistics and updates will be provided to Council once a month.

* Watch meetings on our YouTube channel atwww.youtube.com/modcvideo.

* Subscribe to agenda notifications at www.chester.ca.

* Find water conservation tips and resources at www.lunenburgremo.ca.

* Questions or feedback can be sent to individual Councillors or Council as a whole. Input is welcome to provide others more info, possible options or assistance.

* Social media accounts or websites for updates or items relating to other areas with non Municipal water systems issues, where thoughts and actions are recommended. Learning from others and the different possible options are so important.

The first workshop, 'Networking & Talking About Your Work', is on October 6 from 6-9 p.m. at Chester Art Centre, 60 Queen Street in Chester. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to discuss your work with confidence and how to use these skills to create your own opportunities. The instructor is Christopher Webb - Artist, Curator and Director of Pavia Gallery. A self-taught, visual artist who lives and works in Nova Scotia. He was awarded the CREA – Cantieri del Contemporaneo Venezia Prize for Painting and will have his first international solo exhibition in 2025 at the Marina Bastianello Gallery in Venice, Italy. Welcome toChester

The Village of Chester is situated along the South Shore of Nova Scotia and only 45 minutes from Halifax. Our history dates back 224 years when it was first settled by New England planters and fishermen. In 1761, a vessel carrying eighteen adults and ten children first dropped anchor in Chester Harbor.

Presently, the Village of Chester has a population of 1100 residents with a majority being cottagers and sailing enthusiast. Each year, the Chester Yacht Club holds its annual Regatta in August. The Village is governed by a Commission of five Commissioners.
