🤔 Why does my skin feel like a desert lately? 🏜️
We’ve all been there! You moisturize, you hydrate, but your skin still feels tight, flaky, and just... dry. What gives?
The causes can be subtle, but making a few simple tweaks can make a huge difference! Here are the most common culprits:
💨 Low Humidity (Hello, Indoor Heating/AC!)
Both central heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer pull moisture out of the air, and from your skin, leaving it dehydrated.
🚿 Long, Hot Showers
Hot water and harsh soaps can strip your skin of its natural, protective oils, no matter how good they feel after a long day. Lukewarm is the way to go!
🧼 Harsh Skincare Products
Many popular cleansers and soaps are formulated to remove oil, which can inadvertently strip your skin of essential moisture. Look for gentle, cream or milk cleansers instead.
☕ Dehydration & Lifestyle
Are you drinking enough water? Alcohol and smoking can also act as diuretics, causing you to lose fluids faster and contributing to overall skin dehydration.
exfoliation is key. Too much can irritate your skin, but not enough can lead to a buildup of dead skin cells that prevents your moisturizers from working effectively.
aging, certain medications, or underlying conditions like eczema or psoriasis can impact your skin's hydration levels. If the dryness persists, a dermatologist can help!
💡 Quick Fix: Try applying a rich moisturizer immediately after showering or washing your hands to lock in moisture, and consider a humidifier for your home or office!
