Family Movie Night: Elf (2003) 🍿
A free family movie night for those navigating grief during the holidays.

Friday, December 12 • 6–9:00 p.m.
Chilliwack Hospice Society • 7112 Vedder Road

Bring your family and join us for a cozy evening of laughter and connection as we watch the holiday classic, Elf!

This free event is open to families who are grieving the death of someone special. We invite you to gather with others who are learning that grief and joy can coexist — and that it’s okay if the holidays look a little different this year. Together, we’ll share in community, comfort, and the simple joy of watching a feel-good film.

Enjoy free hot chocolate, popcorn, and candy canes, and feel free to wear your favourite pajamas for the full cozy movie-night experience!

All children must be accompanied by a grown-up. Space is limited, so please let us know how many will be attending. Please pre-register by contacting Kaylee Lovesy, BSW, Child & Youth Program Manager, at (236) 477-8059 or email kaylee@chilliwackhospice.org.

This Chilliwack Hospice Society program is provided free of cost thanks to the generosity of individual donors and businesses in our community.

When Baseball Brings Back Someone You Miss

For many of us, the last time Toronto was in the World Series wasn’t just a game — it was a moment.
Maybe you watched that ’92 or ’93 run crowded around a living room TV.
Maybe your dad called every home run before it left the bat.
Maybe your grandma yelled at the umpires like they could hear her through the screen.
Maybe you high-fived someone who isn’t here to high-five this time around.

And now, when October baseball rolls in, it’s not always just the scoreboard that gets your attention — it’s the memories.

Sometimes grief doesn’t arrive in silence. It sneaks in through the crack of a bat, the sound of “O Canada” before first pitch, or that one player’s batting stance that reminds you of someone who once explained the game like it was poetry.

If your heart aches a little when you watch, it’s okay.
If a celebration feels quieter without them, it’s okay.
If you whisper, “You would’ve loved this,” you’re not alone.

Grief is love that still remembers.

And if you want to honour someone who isn’t here to watch this season with you, you might:
• Wear their favourite Jays jersey — even if it’s a little faded
• Make the “lucky snack” they swore helped win the ’93 series
• Save a spot on the couch and let yourself feel them there
• Share a story about how loud they cheered when Joe Carter hit that home run
• Cheer — loud, proud, and maybe a little messy — the way they would have wanted

Sports don’t just bring fans together. They hold our shared history.
They replay moments we didn’t know mattered until we couldn’t relive them the same way.

The seat beside you may feel empty — but the love that filled it is still here, inning after inning.

Chilliwack Hospice Society team members Sue Knott, Deanna Fedorkew, and Kaylee Lovesy attended the Basecamp 2025 Leadership Conference today — a local event empowering leaders to make a difference and take on new challenges with confidence.

Hosted by Summit Line Leadership, Basecamp builds on the legacy of Chilliwack’s long-running Live2Lead events, offering a day of inspiration, connection, and practical insight from local business leaders and innovators.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to learn, grow, and strengthen our leadership within the community we serve.
