Today, May 7, Chilliwack Hospice Society recognizes National Child and Youth Mental Health Day, a time to acknowledge the mental health experiences of young people and the importance of safe, supportive, and caring communities.

At Chilliwack Hospice Society, we see how mental health and grief can deeply connect in the lives of children and youth. Kaylee Lovesy, one of our Child and Youth Program managers, shares:

“Today we recognize National Child and Youth Mental Health Day. On this day, we make space to reflect on the mental health challenges and successes faced by young people. My work at Chilliwack Hospice Society continues to highlight the intersectionality of children and youth mental health and grief. These experiences often influence one another and show up in the ways in which young people process and make meaning in their grief journeys. By listening, advocating, and showing up in many diverse ways, we can move further towards a place where young people feel supported and validated in their experiences of mental health. May we all play a role in creating connections and communities for our young people that foster a sense of inclusivity, diversity, safety, and trust.”

Admiring the décor curated by Wenona Guilderson and volunteers at the 13th annual Hometown Hoedown for Hospice last month? We couldn't do it without the support of Atchelitz Threshermen's Association and Minter Gardening. Thanks y'all! 🤠

Chilliwack Hospice Society recognizes National Hospice Palliative Care Week from May 3–9, 2026. This year’s theme, Palliative Care Everywhere, reminds us that quality hospice palliative care should be available in every community and every setting: at home, in hospice, in hospital, in long-term care, and wherever people need support.

Palliative care is whole-person care for people living with a life-limiting illness. It can help improve quality of life, reduce suffering, and support individuals, caregivers and families through serious illness, dying, death, and grief.

Across Canada, many people still face barriers to accessing palliative care because of age, location, diagnosis, race or ethnicity, housing instability, or other circumstances. Every person and every family deserves compassionate, culturally safe, and accessible care that reflects their needs, values, and wishes.

At Chilliwack Hospice Society, we are here to support individuals and families in Chilliwack, Agassiz, Harrison Hot Springs, and neighbouring Indigenous communities through grief and bereavement support, palliative care support, caregiver support, education, and programs that promote wellness and healthy grieving.

For those in our community observing Vesak while grieving, this time of reflection may feel especially tender.

Vesak marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha, and is a time for compassion, mindfulness, and quiet reflection. For many, it is observed through acts of kindness, gathering, and spiritual practice. When someone you love has died, these moments can carry both meaning and deep emotion.

As this day is marked, there is space to hold grief alongside reflection and care. However Vesak unfolds for you, may moments of stillness, compassion, and remembrance bring comfort.

We are holding space for you and your loved ones. 🩵

Kaylee Lovesy and Karlee Gross, managers of our Child and Youth Program, represented Chilliwack Hospice Society at the annual Conversation on Chilliwack’s Children and Youth on April 24 at Stitó:s Lá:lém Totí:lt in Chilliwack. Hosted by the Chilliwack Child & Youth Committee - C*C, this year’s gathering focused on collaborative care for 2026 — bringing together organizations across our community to strengthen support for children, youth and families.

It was meaningful to be in a room with so many of the partners we work alongside every day, sharing ideas, building connections and continuing this important work together. 🩵

Chilliwack Hospice Society’s drop-in Traumatic Loss Grief Support Group offers a supportive space for individuals grieving a death that was sudden, violent or traumatic, including death by su***de, homicide, drug poisoning, workplace accident or other circumstances.

Held on the first Tuesday of each month, this group is open to individuals who have accessed Chilliwack Hospice Society services and would like to stay connected, those interested in joining a trauma group or meeting with a counsellor one-on-one, and people who have experienced a traumatic loss and prefer the flexibility of a monthly drop-in group.

Participants are invited to connect with others who understand the complex impacts of traumatic grief in a compassionate, respectful and confidential setting.

For more information, please get in touch with Lucy Fraser, MSW, Director of Programs, by contacting (604) 795-4660 or email at lucy@chilliwackhospice.org.

This Chilliwack Hospice Society program is provided free of cost thanks to the generosity of individual donors and businesses in our community.
