Meditation, mindfulness, focusing, grounding, and somatic practices are various ways to describe intentional thinking and body practices to support yourself with reducing stress and cortisol, experience being in the present moment safely, regulated your nervous system, and develop and grow your emotional regulation capacities.
You can do them formally, like in a soundbath or meditation retreat, but you don't need to.
To bring safe, present, intentional, non-judgemental, emotionally regulated experiences into your life, it starts with just one breath, or one moment of noticing.
You can do this while brushing your teeth, walking, breathing, sitting, reading, eating, drinking, moving.
Notice your breath as it moves in and out.
Notice something you see, touch, or hear.
Take a moment to notice different parts of your body for a few seconds at a time.
Listen to a guided practice recording.
Taking intentional pause in your days for even one minute can create huge neauroplastic development and cognitive support, as well as emotional, physical, and behavioural experiences, over time.
Simple practices are a regular part of therapy work here at DevanCecilia Counselling to help you create capacities and skills you feel confident and capable of using to support yourself with at any moment needed outside of our counselling sessions.
