Additionally, if you are being seen for flu-like symptoms or cold symptoms, we are asking that you please wear a mask and ensure your hands are sanitized. Thank you for helping to keep our patients safe.

Extreme Heat Warning
Chilliwack ● Agassiz-Harrison ● Boston Bar ● Hope (Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon)
Timeframe: August 13-17, 2023

Keep yourself and those around you safe.
Extreme heat can affect your health in a number of ways. It can cause heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It can worsen any existing health conditions. In extreme situations, it can result in permanent disability or death.

The people at higher risk who are more likely to have health problems due to extreme heat are:
β€’ Older adults
β€’ Homeless, living alone, those without air conditioning
β€’ People with chronic illnesses (cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, renal disease, psychiatric illness, substance use)
β€’ People who are physically impaired (confined to bed, or dependence for assistance with daily living, sensory/cognitive impairment)
β€’ People experiencing mental health conditions, particularly schizophrenia
β€’ People taking certain medications (antihypertensives, antidepressants, antipsychotics, anti-Parkinson’s agents)
β€’ Newcomers to Canada
β€’ Infants and young children

Indoor temperatures are the greatest risk during heat events. The risk for heat-related illness may increase at indoor temperatures over 26Β°C (78Β°F) and may significantly increase at indoor temperatures over 31Β°C (88Β°F), especially for people at higher risk to heat. During heat events is it crucial to cool indoor living spaces or spend time in other cool spaces.
