Experiencing smoky skies? With increased fire activity across western Canada, smoke and haze is persisting across the province this week. While some of the smoke is originating from B.C., we’re also receiving smoke drifting in from neighbouring provinces and territories.

Smoke continues to persist across the centre of the province, with most concentrated in the Cariboo Fire Centre and southern portions of the Prince George Fire Centre. Widespread haze may be visible across southern B.C. throughout the rest of the week.

As temperatures remain hot, smoke helps to alter local weather patterns by acting much like cloud cover, reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the ground and helping humidity levels to remain a little higher. Wind speed and direction are also affected by smoke. While smoke blocks incoming solar radiation during the day, it allows the air to cool at night enabling slightly higher overnight moisture levels.

📱 See the Smoke Forecast feature on our BC Wildfire Service map for visuals of where smoke is pooling across the province

For many babies, the safest place to sleep is in their own Health Canada-approved crib.

Your baby’s sleep environment is always important – day or night – but there may be times when your baby needs to sleep using a different surface. With the proper care and attention, this could be a drawer on the floor.💤👶
