I was inspired to create this design because I have three little ones who are diagnosed with ASD. My four year old and my two year old twins showing me that autism is a spectrum; I adore their little traits similar to each other or unique - nonverbal, sensory seeking, stimming, lack of eye contact, lining up things, hyperlexic, scripting, hand leading, and more.

The shapes/figures you see in the brain design represent how the autism brain is different from neurotypical brains. The golden silhouette is of my 4year old, who loves to paint and color rainbows. Of course I had to use a 🌈spectrum of colours🌈 to represent that autism is a Spectrum.♾️

I appreciate the way these Infograph’s talk about masking. Many of our kids struggle with this and it can be very hard on their nervous system and overall health and wellbeing.

Engaging in play with your child for as little as a few minutes a day has so many benefits. When your child receives daily reminders that they matter to you - that you’ll give them your time, that you’ll engage in an activity they love - they will receive a powerful message that they matter, not only to you but as participants in this world.” (The Way of play, p 46)

The Way of Play is wonderful book that I highly recommend to parents, caregivers or anyone who works closely with children.

There is no particular "right time" or "right way" to play with your child. Play has so many benefits including brain development, building social/emotional skills, building confidence, building relationships and fostering meaningful connections and the list goes on. It doesn't have to take a lot of time but if you take a few minutes each day to engage in some sort of play with your child I promise you the benefits to your child's overall health and well-being, to your health and well-being and to your relationship with your child, will be huge.
