Love this!

Today was one of those moments that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

A young patient came into the clinic for her very first custom swim plug and when it came time to pay, she proudly pulled out a little green piece of paper she had written on herself: “$100$”.

It wasn’t about the money, it was about her independence, her excitement, and the way she understood how important it is to take care of her ears.

Moments like these make everything worth it.

Hearing health is for everyone, and stories like hers make it personal.

Riana’s son visiting Dad at work! He’s always been obsessed with everything construction! 🚧 he’s learned very young to wear his hearing protection around any machines, especially mowing the lawn! We make custom earplugs of all kinds: Noise plugs, swimming plugs, sleep plugs and musician plugs.

I illustrate this with a graphic showing that while normal hearing allows for clear comprehension, even mild hearing loss can lead to missing words and filling in gaps. As the severity increases, understanding becomes increasingly difficult, with severe profound loss making it nearly impossible to grasp the message. I want to emphasize that when someone says, "I can hear you, but I can't understand you," it's not a matter of attention but rather the limitations of their hearing. I encourage everyone to be mindful of these challenges and to consider how we communicate with those who may be experiencing hearing loss.

It’s been 10 years since the Senate of Canada proclaimed June as National Deafblind Awareness Month!

National Deafblind Awareness Month creates an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions of Canadians who are deafblind. Each year, Canadians who are deafblind, service providers and supporters come together to “make a wave from coast to coast” to raise awareness through various activities and events.

This June, DeafBlind Ontario Services is proud to join the global initiative , led by Deafblind International. This campaign invites communities to engage in creative expression that fosters awareness, joy, and connection. Our chosen form of expression? Yarn bombing—a vibrant, tactile art form that symbolizes unity and the diverse talents of people who are deafblind.

Yarn bombing involves wrapping public spaces with knitted or crocheted yarn creations.These installations are not only visually striking but also serve as a metaphor for connection—between individuals, communities, and the broader world.

Each installation by DeafBlind Ontario Services is made up of hand crafted pieces created by people supported by DeafBlind Ontario Services, intervenors, friends and family, local knitting clubs, and community members from across the province.
