My Story

My story starts with the birth of my oldest daughter, Faith. I went into labour and was doing well until my husband and I arrived at the hospital. As we were about to enter the hospital I threw up all over the ground. This continued until finally, I asked for an epidural, which made a huge difference. I did spend most of the time in the hospital bed (which I really didn’t want to do), but the epidural was a saving grace. The rest of the labour was fairly smooth until after Faith was born. I was delighted that we had this precious little girl enter into our lives, but then found out I had a retained placenta (pieces of the placenta where stuck inside me!). The OBGYN had to be called, and once she arrived, she manually extracted pieces of my placenta. Yep, she had her arm up my va**na (no exaggeration), and this was brutally painful. It then felt as if my whole body went into shock. My body was shaking, cold, and it felt foreign to me. Not once did anybody reassure me that I was okay. I remember the nurse forcing Faith to my breast when I even struggled to hold onto her. Needless to say, this wasn’t the most pleasant experience of my life. In fact, I would say it was traumatic, but it eventually lead me to the wonderful world of pelvic health physiotherapy. I continue to expand my knowledge on all things related to childbirth education and postpartum recovery. My postpartum recovery story is another one for a later day ;) I know unexpected things happen during labour and birth but I want every expectant mother to feel confident as she moves closer to her birth and I want to give her the tools to deal with all situations during pregnancy and postpartum. I am here to empower women to take control of their health and wellness, from pregnancy and beyond. Take that first step today! Reach out to me and I will be your guide post on this journey.
