June is Pride Month, an annual celebration of the many contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society and cultures worldwide. Pride Month commemorates its roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. The Stonewall Riots were a series of gay liberation protests that began after a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located within Lower Manhattan in New York City.

As a gay business owner, I am proud to support the LGBTQ+ community and celebrate Pride Month. The history of the gay rights movement goes back to the early 1900s, when individuals in North America and Europe created gay and le***an organizations such as the Society for Human Rights, founded by Henry Ge**er in Chicago in the 1920s. Despite progress in the postwar era, basic civil rights were largely denied to gay, le***an, bisexual and transgender people until the Stonewall Riots brought the issue to front-page news worldwide.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate our progress and continue to push for equality and acceptance. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on our history, honor those who have fought for our rights, and continue to work towards a brighter future for all.
