This is SO important folks!

If nutrients can’t get in or wastes can’t get out, you stay inflamed.

Think blood flow and lymphatics.

Think Movement + hydration + diaphragmatic breathing.

Add in lymphatic massage to improve it even more. Did you know that during a lymphatic massage we can help to reroute lymph if there is an area that is low / non functioning.

The goal is not only to optimize healing, health and wellbeing, but to help you THRIVE!

Struggling to get a good night’s sleep? There’s a massage for that! 😴

In the meantime, here are some tips for getting a restful sleep:

No screens 1 - 2 hours before bedtime.

Sleep in a cool and dark room, use a sleep mask if you like.

Try a warm bath before bed.

Don’t eat close to bedtime, if you must, eat easy to digest food.

Go for an evening walk outside (at sunset if possible).

Go outside in the morning to get some morning sun (5-30 min).

Exercise during the day.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

Dim the lights or use lamps / avoid bright lights in the evening + during the night (especially between 11pm and 2am). I love the salt lamp night lights for the bathroom.

Fun fact: many of these tips (along with a good night’s sleep) also support your mitochondrial health!

IAST what?…..

IASTM - Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation.

We often think that these tools mechanically:
• Break up scar tissue
• Remove adhesions
•Release knots

But they actually work with your nervous system by:
• Stimulating the nervous system to alter tissue tone.

The goal -> Stimulate your nervous system to alter tissue for a desired outcome

A better name might be IANSM: INSTRUMENT ASSISTED NEUROSENSORY MODULATION.

So yes, IASTM can definitely help with scar tissue, adhesions and tight tissues, but it MUST work via your nervous system, hence the importance of proper training for manual therapists😉.

As an RMT using IASTM, it’s important that the technique is soft, even though the tools are hard.

There are 72 km of peripheral nerve in a human body and every cubic cm of skin has a nerve or portion of a nerve embedded in it. ~ Diane Jacobs.

Self care between massages can go a long way. I love massage balls because they are so simple and effective. Sore feet? Roll them on the ball for a few minutes a day and notice the difference! Sore upper traps? Place one ball on each side of your upper back (like below) and lay on the balls on the floor, then move slowly rolling into the balls or slowly move your arms up / down to find that sweet spot. Hold for up to 30s and move on to the next spot.

Rapid NFR, a technique that really hits the spot for those in pain as well as those who like a really deep massage.
I learned this technique right out school and haven’t stopped since. I am currently leaning some more advanced neck and knee techniques, as well as some specific nerve work, including for trigeminal neuralgia.
I use this technique when indicated during a regular massage treatment but also offer separate 30 min Rapid NFR treatments.
