Doctor Mama Bear Postpartum Sitz Tea 🌼

2 tbsp calendula flowers
1 tbsp lavender flowers
1 tbsp rose flowers
1 tbsp chamomile
2 cups boiled water

Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes.

Strain into a shallow bath or peri basin once cooled to a comfortable temperature and sit for 10–15 quiet minutes. A small ritual of tending in a season that asks so much of mamas.

Sometimes healing looks like flowers steeping quietly in the kitchen & sometimes it looks like steeping yourself in the flowers 😌🌼

Years ago, when I was still studying acupuncture & Chinese Medicine, a mother sat on my treatment table in student clinic, pregnant with her fifth baby and quietly heartbroken.

She had just come from an appointment where someone had said to her:

“Well… at least you already have four kids.”

And I remember thinking,

what a lonely thing to hear when you are scared for the baby growing inside of you right now 😔

Of course she loved her children deeply.

Of course she was grateful.

But fear does not disappear simply because gratitude exists beside it.

I still remember gently placing Yin Tang between her brows, watching her shoulders soften into the table as her whole body finally exhaled.

And somewhere in that moment, I quietly promised myself something:

🤎that mothers in my care would always feel deeply seen.

🤎Not dismissed.

🤎Not rushed.

🤎Not told their fears are too much.

That beautiful baby was born healthy 💗

And years later, one of my favourite sounds in clinic is still that same deep exhale when a mother finally settles onto my table.

Motherhood asks so much of women.

Sometimes, I think the medicine is being deeply cared for too.

To the pregnant mother who suddenly feels more anxious than she expected,

I see you 🤎

No one really prepares women for this part. The tenderness. The overthinking. The middle-of-the-night thoughts that suddenly feel louder than before.

Pregnancy changes more than the body. Hormones shift, yes, but so does the nervous system. Even deeply wanted seasons can feel vulnerable.

In clinic, I gently remind mothers of this:

•warm water
•nutrient dense breakfast
•herbal tea pairing

A simple nettle infusion I often start mothers with.

Base recipe:
• 2–4 tsp dried nettle leaf per cup of boiling water
• Cover + steep 10–30 minutes (longer if you want a stronger infusion)
• Sip warm, never cold

Then, consider adding:

• Red raspberry leaf, if you’re rebuilding after bleeding or supporting the uterus
• Oat straw, if your nervous system feels thin or frayed
• Alfalfa, if you need deeper mineral nourishment
• Rose hips, if you want a gentle vitamin C boost and brighter flavour

I loved being pregnant but the morning sickness took everything from me.

I love breastfeeding into the toddler years but I know the toll it can take if we lack mineral replenishment.
