Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from Marcel and Frances Labelle π
C O U N T D O W N t'il C H R I S T M A S : 1 day!!!
Earlier this year, our region came together to celebrate the largest private donation made to any hospital in Northern Ontario. The Marcel and Frances Labelle Foundation from Cochrane announced a $5 million donation to support the building and equipping of the Innovation and Learning Centre at Health Sciences North (HSN).
In recognition of Marcel and Frances Labelleβs leadership, generosity and dedication to learning, the centre will be known as the Labelle Innovation and Learning Centre.
βMarcel and Frances Labelle are proud to support the Innovation and Learning Centre, which will ensure that northerners will be among the first to benefit from breakthrough techniques and treatment methods learned on site,β said Ehor Bobby, Director for the Marcel and Frances Labelle Foundation.
The Labelle Innovation and Learning Centre will provide the facilities and technology required to teach and train both clinical staff and students who are, or soon will be, on the front line of patient care. The 28,000 sq. ft. word-class facility will include classrooms, lecture spaces, work stations and on-call rooms and is scheduled for completion in 2020. The new Centre will accommodate 2,000 learners each year as well as provide existing staff and physicians with opportunities to advance their skills.
βThe Labelle Innovation and Learning Centre will be an important part of the learning process, especially for difficult procedures,β says Alexia Presello, second-year resident in Family Medicine. βWith specialized training, we will have the opportunity to make mistakes in a simulation laboratory and learn from those mistakes.β
This Holiday Season, consider making a gift of $50, $100 or $1000 to ensure the best tools and equipment are put in the hands of our physicians, staff researchers and medical learners in Northeastern Ontario.
