🌿❄️Tips for Your First Cold Plunge!❄️🌿

New to cold plunging? Here are a few beginner tips to help you ease in and make the most of your experience:

1️⃣ Start with a warm body (a sauna session or light movement helps!)
2️⃣ Focus on your breath — slow, deep breaths calm your system
3️⃣ Ease in slowly to shoulder depth
4️⃣ Aim for 1–2 minutes max (you don’t need to overdo it!)
5️⃣ Warm up naturally afterward — try not to run right back into the Sauna immediately

✨ I always tell beginners: Challenge yourself to 30 seconds your first round, then try 1 minute the next! You’ll be surprised how quickly you adapt 💪

If you’re planning a custom sauna, choosing your heat source sets the whole vibe. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:

✔️ Low maintenance
But keep in mind:

⚠️ Needs a power hookup

👋🏼Hello to my loyal followers and a big welcome to all the new faces around here! I figured now’s a perfect time to reintroduce myself and give you a little peek behind the scenes of Dark Barrel Saunas!

🌿If you know us, you know we LOVE saunas—the smell of cedar, the benefits, the healing, the stillness. We always dreamed of having our own, and one day while traveling out west, sitting in a hotel sauna, the idea hit us: What if we brought a mobile sauna to the Lakeland?

But to be honest, I hesitated. I was scared of the unknown, the behind-the-scenes stuff, and of failing. Thankfully, Noel encouraged me, pushed me out of my comfort zone—and I haven’t looked back since.

I’m the one behind the day-to-day—running the business, managing booking & social media, keeping everything clean, and staying on top of the books… but when it comes to backing up a sauna? Yeah, that’s still Noel’s job! So if you see a sauna being delivered, it’s definitely him behind the wheel.

When we’re not delivering mobile saunas, Noel’s usually in the shop building custom Saunas—or we’re out enjoying the outdoors. Our family loves anything outside: skidooing, side-by-siding, hiking, biking, camping, fishing… you get the idea!

Thank you to the Lakeland for all the love and support. We’re coming up on our 2-year anniversary, and we can’t wait to celebrate—maybe with a giveaway?

After a week away soaking up the sun, we’ve returned to the beauty of snow-covered trees and glistening icicles—perfect sauna weather!

🌿This past weekend was incredible!!! We were able to partake in not only 1, but 2 retreats!!! Friday night we went to for the cultivate retreat!! We met most of the speakers, and let me tell you.. such amazing people. There were MANY brave souls who also cold showered between sauna sessions. Our cup was so full from all the positive comments; one woman said, “My body has never felt this amazing”

Then Sunday, I was able to bring the Sauna to the at . I went there with intentions I would be “working” I didn’t realize how much I would partake in the day retreat. And let me tell you, it was incredible. The speakers she chose were perfection. I left there feeling so light, and so many tools to use in my daily life. If she puts on another one, you NEED to consider going. To feel this empowered and connected, and learn so much about reflexology, enneagram, and our bodies.

I still have my notes, and can’t wait to reflect in the coming weeks. But I can’t thank both of these retreats for having us, and being so welcoming 🤍

🌿Tips by Britt: Yes, beginner sauna users can gradually build up their tolerance to the heat with consistent use. Here are a few tips to help ease into sauna sessions:

1.Start Slow: Begin with shorter sessions (5-10 minutes) and gradually increase the duration as your body becomes more accustomed to the heat.
2.Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before and after to stay hydrated.
3.Cool Down Between Sessions: If doing multiple rounds, take breaks to cool down. You can also incorporate cold showers or plunges to balance the heat.
4.Listen to Your Body: Don’t push yourself too hard at first. It’s normal for beginners to feel uncomfortable at higher temperatures, but over time, tolerance will increase.
5.Consistency: Regular sauna use (2-3 times per week) will help your body adapt and enjoy the benefits over time.

This gradual approach allows beginners to experience the health benefits of saunas, such as improved circulation and relaxation, without overwhelming their bodies.
