The efforts by snowmobilers often provide myriad of opportunities for other types of recreation including cross-country skiing, backcountryskiing, ATV-ing, dog-sledding, hikers, bikers horseback riders and snowshoers. All this typically comes at no cost to the other trail users. Be thankful and support the hard working BCSF clubs that dedicate time and funding to British Columbia trail systems throughout the province.

Avalanche danger is going up ⬆️ so it is time to dial back terrain choices again! We will be ringing in the new year 🍾 with 20-40cm of new snow and strong south west winds depending where you are in our forecast regions. Remember that avalanche paths are not “one and done”; all those paths that avalanched in the last storm will be reloading, and cornices will be growing too. The new snow will be falling on a variety of snow surface types (windslabs, surface hoar, crusts, etc.) and will need some time to stabilize. Check the avalanche bulletin for more details about your riding area at www.avalanche.ca

Time to work off all that turkey! It’s a beautiful day out there with all Morrissey loops groomed last night including the first pass of the season on the McEvoy East trail. Corbin scheduled for grooming tonight. Please note we will be postponing the Bob Arnott Memorial Ride due to icy conditions on the lower trail (originally scheduled Dec 28th). Please check back with us as we reschedule in the new year.

When there’s an avalanche problem, terrain is the answer. Special Public Avalanche Warning issued by Avalanche Canada for the South Rockies / Lizard Ranges and we’re playing it safe into the new year by sticking to low angle terrain, avoiding terrain traps like gullies, and giving avalanche paths a wide berth with our guided groups this week.
