Thank you for your interest in our funding application! Applications are now available on our website www.oscarsplace.ca.

As parents of a special little boy, Oscar’s Place owners, learned firsthand that there is very limited access to privately funded
rehabilitation services for children north of Toronto. Oscar’s Place is a place was created not only for their son but for all children who may need extra help along the way.
At Oscar’s Place, we offer a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation. This means your child can access physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and mental health services under one roof. This can be especially beneficial for those children with complex needs because it allows for a collaborative approach to treatment while working towards common, patient-centred goals.
We know that costs can be overwhelming whether your child requires medical supplies, equipment or access to therapies (not exclusive to Oscar’s Place!) and even respite. We want to help!
We have created this fund for families of children with complex needs who need additional support.

We want to help!

We know that costs can be overwhelming whether your child requires medical supplies, equipment or access to therapies and even respite. We want to help!

As parents of a special little boy, Oscar’s Place owners, Lana and Oscar Roman learned first hand that there is very limited access to privately funded rehabilitation services for children north of Toronto. Lana’s background as a physiotherapist combined with her passion for paediatric rehabilitation fuelled the creation of Oscar’s Place. A place created not only for their son, but for all children who may need some extra help along the way.

We have created the Oscar’s Place Fund for local families of children with complex needs who need additional support.

The application is now available on our website. Please visit www.oscarsplace.ca and click on the ā€œResources and Educationā€ tab on the menu bar.

Applications will be accepted starting at 8:00am on Monday July 15, 2024 and will be accepted through 11:59pm on Sunday July 21, 2024. Funds will be awarded in order of receipt of completed applications.

Maximizing participation (defined as the action of taking part in something) is an important outcome for physiotherapists who serve children, including children with disabilities.

This includes the child’s ability to participate in home, school and community activities. This includes social interactions that take place during the activity.

The development of movement shows a clear connection with the development of communication, object exploration and social interactions.

Assume competence!

This may seem obvious, but always assume that the person who you are communicating with understands.

Even if the person is nonspeaking, that doesn’t mean that they don’t communicate or understand.

To increase engagement try:

- Using gestures! Body language is such a powerful means of communication.
- Written communication
- Use pictures or symbols
- Do they use a communication device?
- And don’t forget to attempt eye contact! Understanding that some people find it difficult to maintain eye contact when communicating.
