“I wanted to be a pediatrician growing up. My mom worked in a hospital as a social worker, so healthcare and giving back to the community were always around me.

Kathleen De Pellegrin is the Vice President, Corporate Services and CFO at CGMH. Her path into healthcare finance wasn’t something she originally planned.
Life eventually led her to accounting and public accounting, and when the opportunity to move into healthcare finance came along, something clicked.

“I didn’t consciously plan to land here,” she explains. “But in many ways, it feels like I’ve come full circle.”

Today, she helps guide the financial stewardship of the hospital. Something she sees as deeply connected to the care provided here.

“There’s a responsibility that comes with being a publicly funded hospital and serving our community,” she says. “The numbers matter, but they’re in service of providing outstanding care.”

Those who work with her often notice the steady tone she brings to the role.

“I’m told I have a calm presence,” she says. “And laughter goes a long way. I try to create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable and supported.”

Much of the role happens quietly behind the scenes.

“A lot of it is being a sounding board,” she says. “Listening, asking questions, and helping people think things through.”

Outside of work, she finds balance in simpler moments.

“Baking and spending time with my family,” she says. “Feeding the people I love never gets old.”

For her, the work ultimately comes back to the values that first drew her to healthcare.

“Being part of an organization that’s there for people when they need it most is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.”

Great care begins behind the scenes. Sometimes, it starts with a puzzle.

For Lauren, Jamie, Nicole, Rachel, and Joanne, that puzzle is what keeps the hospital moving. Behind the scenes, they coordinate the people, the timelines, and the details that ensure every department is supported.

“The schedules are like a puzzle,” Lauren says. “You’re trying to fit the pieces together and make it work. It’s a challenge every day.”

She notes that each department has their own unique needs. “I work in partnership with the managers and People Services team to make sure everything is aligned before I post it,” she explains. “When it goes out smoothly and people feel supported, that makes it all worth it.”

Once the schedules are posted, Jamie and the staffing team take over the day-to-day adjustments.

“We work closely with both staff and managers,” Jamie says. “They come to us with requests, and we help guide them, whether it’s understanding their schedule, picking up shifts, trading, or knowing what applies to their role.”

Behind the scenes, teamwork is essential.

“We have to be a tight-knit team,” Jamie says. “We work off each other’s work, every day, all day. We have to be able to rely on one another.”

Together, they make sure every piece fits so the hospital can maintain smooth operations.

On Staffing and Scheduling Day, we celebrate Lauren, Jamie, Nicole, Rachel, and Joanne for their dedication and the essential work they do every day.

For the past 10 years, Julie has been a dedicated and supportive Cardiac Technologist at CGMH. She values working in a hospital environment where she can provide personalized care for the community she resides in.

“You get to know the patients. You get to know the people,” she says. “It’s more than just work. It’s about caring for the community I live in.”

Julie’s days are filled with outpatient diagnostic testing including stress tests, Holter monitoring, and EKGs, but she knows her most important work often begins before any test starts. “I try to put people at ease,” she explains. “I talk to my patients about everyday things, so it doesn’t feel so serious.”

She sees firsthand the anxiety many patients carry through the door and takes pride in helping them feel calmer and more comfortable. For Julie, the greatest reward comes at the end of an appointment, when a patient leaves smiling and says, “I was up all-night stressing about nothing - you made it so much easier for me.”

“That’s what I love about my job,” she says. “Meeting patients every day and helping them through something that feels scary - that’s what makes this work so meaningful.”

During Cardiovascular Professionals Week, we proudly recognize Julie for the clinical expertise, compassion, and steady reassurance she brings to our patients and our community each and every day.

Comfort is often the first thing patients need when they walk through our doors. For both Carleigh, Nicole and their fellow colleagues, that understanding shapes how they care for every patient they meet in the echocardiogram department.

“People often arrive feeling stressed about the test they’re having,” Carleigh says. “They need to feel comfortable and have the procedure fully explained.”

Her approach goes beyond the test itself. “Talking about everyday things - not just the exam - helps people relax. It reminds them they’re being cared for as a person.” That sense of connection is why she is proud to be part of CGMH, where teammates support each other every day. “It really feels like a little family here, with the team and with the patients. That matters.”

Nicole joined the team a year ago and quickly saw how important reassurance is for patients.

“Often, patients arrive thinking they’re having a different type of test,” she says. “You have to walk them through the procedure, explain everything from the beginning, and simply provide comfort.”

Both Carleigh and Nicole take pride in knowing their work directly contributes to better patient outcomes. “When the test we complete leads to a diagnosis that helps ensure the patient receives the right care - that’s huge,” Nicole says.

During Cardiovascular Professionals Week, we celebrate Carleigh, Nicole, Michelle, and Jenna for the hard work, compassion, and reassurance they bring to every patient they meet.
