Last week, CGMH’s Dialysis Team celebrated an incredible milestone: 30 years as a satellite site in the Regional Dialysis Program.

That’s three decades of ensuring local patients receive life‑sustaining dialysis closer to home, supported by a dedicated and compassionate team.
Through our Patient Experience Survey, patients consistently describe the Hemodialysis Team as excellent, knowledgeable, and caring.

Thank you to this outstanding team for continuing to deliver high‑quality care to the South Georgian Bay community.

Big news for South Georgian Bay

A major step forward for Collingwood’s future hospital is officially in place. A 54-acre site at Poplar Sideroad and Raglan Street has been secured in collaboration with the Town of Collingwood, bringing a modern, purpose-built healthcare facility one step closer to reality.

At the heart of this milestone is the incredible generosity of the Di Poce family, whose donation is helping shape healthcare in the region for generations to come.

With land now secured and planning underway, momentum is building toward a hospital designed to grow with the community and meet future needs.

A meaningful step forward, made possible through strong community partnership.

Care you may not always see, but that’s always there.

In the laboratory at CGMH, every test and every result plays a vital role in a patient’s story.

“We have a very hardworking lab team,” says Sarah, Laboratory Manager. “At the end of the day, we’re all here to help others.”

That shared purpose is what connects the team.

“I enjoy this work because I get to help patients and make a difference in their care,” says Rhoda, Medical Laboratory Technologist. “When you’re part of saving a patient’s life, it means everything.”

Mohammed is a Charge Technologist. From his perspective, “the most rewarding part is serving patients and the community,” he says, adding “especially those who are most in need.”

It’s a team that depends on one another and takes pride in getting it right.

“We’re a very close‑knit group,” says Ashtyn, Medical Laboratory Assistant. “Even during brief interactions, you can create a meaningful connection.”

A member of the team for the past 15 years, Erin, Medical Laboratory Assistant says, “we’re always striving to deliver the most accurate results, because in the end, patients depend on them.”

From supporting advanced technology to connecting with patients face‑to‑face, every role matters. For Henry a Medical Laboratory Technologist and Jeffrey a Lab Information Specialist, much of that work happens behind the scenes.

“The most rewarding part of my job is making sure everything runs smoothly,” says Jeffrey. “That way, patients get the care they need, without delay.”

And sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that stay with you.

“Meeting new patients every day, new people, and hearing new stories, that’s what I enjoy most about this job,” says Tammy, Phlebotomist Clerk.

During National Medical Laboratory Week, we recognize and thank the CGMH laboratory team for the essential work they do every day to support patient care.

Sometimes care comes in the smallest gestures. A smile, a conversation, or a simple cup of tea.

For Sharon Dinsmore, those moments are part of everyday life at CGMH.

A Clinical Dietitian for more than 18 years, Sharon works with inpatients to help them understand how nutrition connects to their diagnosis and recovery.

“My role is to meet with patients and help them understand the connection between nutrition and their clinical diagnosis,” she says. “Hopefully helping them in their recovery.”

But beyond the clinical side, patients often need something more.

“I think patients need to feel that they can trust the healthcare professionals,” she says. “They need to feel comfortable sharing their story so that we can help them.”

That trust often begins with small acts.

“Sometimes patients are nervous or upset. They may feel lonely or isolated,” she says. “Sometimes it’s just sitting and chatting with them, or getting them a cup of tea, and helping them feel confident that they’re well cared for.”

Even a small gesture can make a difference.

“Sometimes patients just need to see a smile and know that they are recognized and not forgotten.”

For Sharon, those moments are what matter most.

“The most rewarding part of my job is sitting down with patients one-on-one, getting to know them and their story, and supporting them in the path ahead.”

On Dietitians Day, we recognize Sharon for the care she brings to every patient, and for the small moments that make a meaningful difference each day.

“I wanted to be a pediatrician growing up. My mom worked in a hospital as a social worker, so healthcare and giving back to the community were always around me.

Kathleen De Pellegrin is the Vice President, Corporate Services and CFO at CGMH. Her path into healthcare finance wasn’t something she originally planned.
Life eventually led her to accounting and public accounting, and when the opportunity to move into healthcare finance came along, something clicked.

“I didn’t consciously plan to land here,” she explains. “But in many ways, it feels like I’ve come full circle.”

Today, she helps guide the financial stewardship of the hospital. Something she sees as deeply connected to the care provided here.

“There’s a responsibility that comes with being a publicly funded hospital and serving our community,” she says. “The numbers matter, but they’re in service of providing outstanding care.”

Those who work with her often notice the steady tone she brings to the role.

“I’m told I have a calm presence,” she says. “And laughter goes a long way. I try to create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable and supported.”

Much of the role happens quietly behind the scenes.

“A lot of it is being a sounding board,” she says. “Listening, asking questions, and helping people think things through.”

Outside of work, she finds balance in simpler moments.

“Baking and spending time with my family,” she says. “Feeding the people I love never gets old.”

For her, the work ultimately comes back to the values that first drew her to healthcare.

“Being part of an organization that’s there for people when they need it most is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.”
