🧡 During the National Week for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the children who never made it home.
At Turning Point Counselling we recognize that mental health and wellness cannot be separated from truth, justice, and equity. Standing against oppression means listening to Indigenous voices, acknowledging the ongoing impacts of colonialism, and committing to action in solidarity with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.
Reconciliation is not a single week—it is lifelong work. We invite you to read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and support Indigenous-led organizations and initiatives in our community. www.turningpt.ca

Today, the owner and operators of Turning Point Counselling, Geoff and Catherine enthusiastically hosted our annual appreciation brunch for their amazing team of therapists!
Catherine’s office was transformed to an elegant dining room and a delicious spread was enjoyed by all.
Special thanks to the Sober Sips in downtown Barrie for their non alcoholic Sangria and mimosas! What a treat!

Turning Point Counselling would like to thank all of their therapists and client care coordinator for providing excellent care and for their unwavering commitment to mental healthcare. We’d also like to this opportunity to thank our clients for choosing Turning Point Counselling for support. You matter to us. It is truly an honour that you gift us with the ability to walk with you through difficult times. Thank YOU! 💕

September is Su***de Prevention Month -
Su***de is not a weakness, and talking about it should never carry shame. By breaking the stigma and changing the narrative, we can create safer spaces for open conversation, compassion, and hope.
Together, we can remind each other: reaching out for help is a sign of strength, and no one has to face their struggles alone.

The way we connect as adults often traces back to how we felt in our earliest relationships. Our attachment style is a reflection of what we learned about love and safety.
Healing starts with awareness. You can learn more from reading “The Secure Attachment” by Julie Menanno.

Today, we honour the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

As social workers, we are committed to listening, learning, and walking alongside Indigenous communities in the ongoing work of truth, reconciliation, and justice.

Let’s take time today—and every day—to celebrate Indigenous voices, support Indigenous-led initiatives, and reflect on the responsibilities we each carry.

This Pride Month, we recognize that mental health care must be inclusive, affirming, and rooted in equity. LGBTQIA+ communities continue to face barriers that impact well-being — and that must change. We’re committed to advocating for systems that support dignity, safety, and access for all. Equity isn’t optional — it’s essential.

This , we’re — because there’s more to every person than what meets the eye. Let’s look beyond the surface, challenge assumptions, and truly see one another.

Mental health is part of the whole person, and it’s time we removed the stigma and started having real, compassionate conversations. You never know what someone is carrying behind their smile.

Let’s build a world where everyone feels safe to show up as they are — no masks needed.

Anger is a Natural Emotion—But It Doesn’t Have to Control You

For some individuals, managing anger can feel overwhelming. It can impact relationships, work, and overall well-being. Anger often masks deeper emotions like hurt, fear, or frustration. The good news? With the right support, change is possible.

At Turning Point Counselling, we work with individuals struggling with anger control. Through therapy, clients can learn healthier coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and ways to express themselves without harm. Help is available to build healthier responses and stronger connections.
