When Physiotherapy Helps… and When It Doesn’t

Physiotherapy is powerful—but it’s not magic.
Knowing when physio helps (and when it doesn’t) actually leads to better outcomes.
Physiotherapy helps when:
✔️ Pain or injury is related to movement, strength, or load
✔️ You’ve had surgery and need guided rehab
✔️ Pain keeps coming back because the root cause wasn’t addressed
✔️ You want to move better, not just feel better temporarily
✔️ You’re willing to be an active part of the process

Physio may NOT help when:
❌ You’re looking for a quick passive fix with no follow-up
❌ Rest alone (short-term) is the right answer
❌ The goal is symptom relief without addressing function

👉 Good physio isn’t about endless appointments. It’s about understanding why something hurts, building confidence in movement, and giving you tools you can use long-term.

At CBS Wellness, we’re honest about what physiotherapy can—and can’t—do, because the right care at the right time matters.

❄️ Shoveling Safety Tips ❄️

Heavy, wet snow is beautiful — but it’s also one of the biggest triggers for back injuries and muscle strains this time of year. Before you head out to clear the 30-60cm of snow in your driveway, take a few minutes to protect your body.

Here are some best practices snow shoveling tips from your team at CBS Wellness:

# # # 🟢 Warm Up First

Cold muscles are tight muscles.
Try:

* Marching on the spot for 2–3 minutes
* Arm swings
* Gentle back bends

A quick warm-up can reduce your injury risk significantly.

# # # 🟢 Clear Snow in Stages

Shovel smaller amounts more often instead of waiting until it’s deep and heavy. Wet snow gets heavier by the hour.

# # # 🟢 Push Whenever Possible

Pushing snow is easier on your back than lifting.
If you must lift:

* Bend at your knees
* Keep the shovel close to your body
* Avoid twisting — turn your whole body instead

# # # 🟢 Take Breaks

Snow shoveling is surprisingly demanding. Rest every 10–15 minutes and listen to your body.
Stop immediately if you feel chest discomfort, dizziness, or unusual shortness of breath.

# # # 🟢 Switch Sides

Alternate your grip and stance to prevent overloading one side of your back.

---

If you wake up tomorrow with a sore back, tight shoulders, or neck pain, don’t wait it out. Early treatment can prevent a minor strain from becoming a long-term issue.

Stay safe out there 💙

POWER CONSERVATION UPDATE

The Town of Conception Bay South is pleased to advise residents that Town facilities will reopen tomorrow and resume regular operating hours. An update on the status of the swimming pool will be provided in the morning.

We thank our residents for their cooperation and conservation efforts during the recent power warning, and extend our appreciation to Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro for their efforts. The actions taken across our community helped reduce pressure on the provincial power grid and supported overall system stability.

POWER CONSERVATION UPDATE

NL Hydro has issued a Power Warning for the Island effective Saturday, January 24, and is asking customers to conserve electricity to help maintain system stability.

In support of this request, the Town of Conception Bay South has implemented the following power conservation measures effective immediately:

• The Recreation Complex (pool) — the Town’s greatest consumer of electricity — will close at 7:15 p.m. this evening and will remain closed until conservation measures are no longer required.

• Town arenas will remain open at this time, while canteen services are closed. Ice cleaning is operating at a reduced level. Please note that arenas may close if necessary; users are asked to monitor the Town’s social media for updates.

• Worsley Park Building and Parsons Rotary Clubhouse will be closed after today’s programming concludes.

• Non-essential lighting has been turned off and heat has been reduced in town facilities that are not in use.

• The Community Park skating rink is closed at this time.

Residents are asked to do their part by conserving electricity where possible, including limiting the use of high-energy appliances, reducing hot water usage, turning off unnecessary lights, and lowering heat in unused rooms.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
