The 20-20-20 rule is used to help reduce eye strain, especially when using digital devices.
What you need to do is:
- Every 20 minutes, take a break from looking at your screen
- Look at something 20 feet away
- Do this for at least 20 seconds
This method allows the muscles in your eyes to relax & refocus, reducing the strain that’s caused by prolonged near-focusing, which is common for those working on computers/phones or other digital devices.
It’s also a preventative rule in fighting dry eye symptoms, as prolonged screen time & close up work could lead to:
- Dryness
- Itching
- Irritation
