After-school meltdowns aren't bad behaviour. They're restraint collapse, and it makes complete sense once you understand what's happening.

Your child spent the whole day holding it together. Following rules, managing noise, navigating friendships, keeping their reactions in check. That takes an enormous amount of energy, especially for a brain that's working harder than others to do it.

By the time they walk through your front door, there's nothing left to hold. And home is safe enough to fall apart.

So when the crying, the rage, or the shutdown happens, that's actually your child trusting you. They saved their hardest moments for the person they feel safest with.

Understanding that doesn't make it easier in the moment, but it does change what the moment is asking of you. 💛

If you'd like support navigating this, our team is here.

Some children can't tell you what's wrong. But give them a sand tray, a puppet, or a piece of clay and they'll show you.

That's what play therapy makes possible. A child who has no words for anxiety can build it, move it, name it through play. What feels impossible to say out loud becomes something they can express in the way that comes most naturally to them.

A puppet, a figure, a piece of clay. These aren't activities. They're a language.

If your child has been carrying something they can't explain, play therapy can give them a way to show it. 🧸

Autism isn't a single experience. It's a spectrum, and that word matters.

Every person with autism is different. Different strengths, different challenges, different ways of moving through the world. What autism looks like for one child will look completely unlike how it presents in another. Or in an adult who's only just getting answers now.

This month, we want to be clear about what we believe: people with autism deserve to be understood, supported, and affirmed as whole people. Not fixed. Not normalized. Understood.

If you're seeking answers for your child, or for yourself, our assessment wait times are around 6 months. We're here, and we take this seriously.

You schedule every appointment. Research every diagnosis. Advocate at every meeting.

Who's advocating for you?

Caregiving is a full-time emotional job on top of everything else you carry. And somewhere along the way, your own needs quietly moved to the bottom of the list.

That's not sustainable, and it's not something you should just push through.

Individual counselling for adults is available at Creative Minds, virtually across BC and Alberta. You don't need a referral. You don't need to be in crisis. You just need to decide that you matter too. 🌿

We have openings now. Book a consultation, link in bio.

Wondering if you or your child might have ADHD or autism, but not sure where to even start? You're not alone in that feeling.

The word "assessment" can sound daunting. Clinical. Cold. But a psychological assessment is really just a structured way to get answers. To stop guessing and start knowing.

At Creative Minds, our assessments are warm and designed to fit how you or your child actually works, not the other way around. We assess both children and adults, because the need for answers doesn't have an age limit. Carolina has been working with autism since 2004, and every assessment uses gold-standard tools so you can trust what the results mean.

Wait times around 6 months. A full report with real recommendations. And a team that walks you through every step.

If you've been wondering, this is where to start. 💛

When a child seems "defiant," they're often not being difficult on purpose. They're overwhelmed.

Here's one thing our team sees all the time: a child who appears to be refusing, pushing back, or shutting down is usually a child whose nervous system is already at capacity. The behaviour isn't the problem. It's the signal.

Before moving to consequences, try connection. Get down to their level. Name what you think they might be feeling. "I can see this feels really hard right now." It doesn't fix everything, but it opens the door.

If transitions, meltdowns, or daily power struggles are taking over your home, that's not a parenting failure. That's a sign your child might need more support than strategies alone can offer. 🧩

We're here when you're ready.

Play therapy isn't just playing. It's how kids process what they can't say out loud yet.

When a child picks up a sand tray figure and begins to tell a story, they're not just imagining. They're working through something real. Something that might be too big, too confusing, or too scary to put into words. That's the whole point.

In the therapy room, sand trays, puppets, art, and storytelling become a language. A child who shuts down in a traditional talk therapy session will often open right up through play. Because play is where kids already live.

If your child has been holding something in, therapy that meets them where they are can make all the difference.

💛 We have openings now. You don't have to keep waiting.

They called us daydreamers, shy, sensitive, high-achieving.

They didn’t see the mental traffic jam, the masking, the burnout, the overwhelm.

So many ADHD girls grew up thinking they were the problem instead of realizing they just needed support.

It is never too late to get an assessment!! Contact us for a consultation ❤️ Link in Bio 🌱 .
