The Real Secret to Progress? (Hint: It’s Not Perfection)
Can I share something I’ve learned over the years—both personally and in practice?

When it comes to improving your health (especially if you’re navigating gut issues or autoimmune conditions), there’s one thing that makes the biggest difference.

It’s not the perfect diet.
It’s not the longest supplement list.
And it’s definitely not waiting for the stars to align and your schedule to magically clear.

💡 It’s consistency.

Now before your eyes glaze over or your inner critic pipes up, let me reassure you: I’m not talking about being “perfect.” I’m talking about the kind of steady, doable rhythm that works with your real life—not against it.
Head to the Blog and read all about it! https://eatforliving.ca/the-real-secret-to-health/

It won't be long before we're diving into the season of salads! I can't wait to toss those first tender and tasty greens onto my plate.

A hearty salad packed with greens and veggies is a fantastic way to boost your plant intake and load up on gut-friendly polyphenols, fibres as well as essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

It's a win, win!

But here's the thing: the dressing is key to making that salad pop with flavour.

Highly processed bottled dressings rank as the ugly of salad dressings and can actually strip your salad of its health benefits.

But...

a dressing made in your own kitchen with quality ingredients has many, many health benefits!

Here's a quick, easy and gut healthy dressing recipe https://eatforliving.ca/basic-salad-dressing/

The nutritionist in me is doing a happy dance over all the fresh, colourful, fibre-filled goodness showing up in gardens and markets right now. From juicy berries to crisp cucumbers, leafy greens to sweet peas—this is the season to nourish your body and your gut.

💚 Fun fact: Your gut microbes love fibre. It’s their favourite fuel! The more variety you give them, the more balanced your gut becomes—and that means better digestion, more energy, and a happier you.

You bet!!

The Farmers Market is a great place to find the foods in season and right now you will find lots of squashes, beets, radishes and even leafy greens like kale, collards greens and swiss chard.

When heading down the produce aisle look for the cruciferous greens...arugula, kale, bok choy and cabbage. Then add in lots of the seasonal tap root greens. Beet greens sautéd lightly with a little butter and sea salt is delicious 😋 Celeriac greens and radish greens are not only tasty but provide a nutritional boost for this time of year.

Balance is elusive and routines definitely can be tricky things.

You find yourself getting enthused...doing a big shop at Whole Foods and fill your fridge with fresh greens and restock your pantry with quinoa and h**p seeds.

You committed to these new habits but before you know it, life gets in the way and slowly - one treat at a time - you fall back into old habits.

Fear not, it’s part of the process.

Old habits occasionally rear their chocolate-doughnut-loving heads, but this doesn’t mean that you have failed.

Building healthy habits requires a slow and steady mentality...and sometimes it's a two steps forward and one step back kind of process.

Instead of giving up or berating yourself I want to share a couple of proven ways to get on track, re-engage and stay enthused so you can stick to the health goals you have set for yourself.

Remember that

Creating new habits takes time - no way around it!

Small changes, over time have BIG impact

and

True health is a lifestyle, not a diet

Another seasonal favourite - your body and your taste buds will like this one!

This is a quick and delicious meal on a Fall evening. Serve this soup with your choice of a winter salad…my choice is the Roasted Beet, Kale and Walnut salad – delish!

A little more crunch?
Top with raw pumpkin seeds. Is very tasty topped with roasted cauliflower or roasted sliced carrots.

Ingredients
2 tbsps Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or coconut oil)
1 Yellow Onion (large and cut into eighths)
1 tbsp Curry Powder
6 cups Butternut Squash (peeled, seeded and cut into 1 inch pieces)
3 Carrot (peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces)
3 cups Organic Chicken Broth
1 cup Organic Coconut Milk (full fat)
1 tbsp Ginger (fresh, peeked and chopped)
3/4 tsp Sea Salt
1/2 cup Cilantro (optional, for topping)

Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Combine oil and curry powder in a large bowl; add squash, carrots and onions. Toss together till coated

Spread coated vegetables onto a roasting pan. Roast in preheated oven for 30 min or until golden brown. Stir occasionally.

Once vegetables are roasted, add to a stockpot over medium heat, along with the ginger, broth and coconut milk. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Cook until vegetables are tender.

Blend till smooth with an immersion blender or in batches in the blender.

Serve hot topped with cilantro. Swirling a little coconut milk or cashew cream on top of each serving bowl is also a nice touch!

Eat For Living!

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food - Hippocrates. There is no better way to say it! Healthy food and lifestyle choices can not only prevent costly and devastating disease but are the same healthy choices that put you on the path to health and vitality! My philosophy is one of bio-individuality...no one diet or lifestyle is right for everyone. We are unique individuals. Some bodies thrive on certain foods while those same foods would cause dis-ease for another body. Helping you discover which foods fuel your unique body and which foods inflame you is the basis of my practice. Are you experiencing any of these symptoms? - Low energy - Headaches or migraine - Chronic digestive issues - Weight gain - Anxiety - Depression - Unable to sleep through the night - Allergies, Asthma or Excema As a holistic Nutritionist, I hear this list of symptoms often. Transitioning to a healthy diet is tough as many of us just don't know which foods to eat – which are good for us and which aren't. It's confusing and to make matters worse, there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Our food supply has changed drastically over the past 50 years, as has marketing and labeling of food products, only adding to the confusion. I Can Help! I've designed my programs to guide you through the maze of information and bring you out the other end with a good understanding of exactly which foods nourish your body and which foods can cause dis-ease. Whether you feel you are already quite healthy but want to take it to the next level or, you are simply... Sick and Tired of being Sick and Tired There is something in my programs for everyone. I will guide you to explore which foods work best (and which don't) to give you optimum energy, kickstart changes in your body, and reduce your waistline. I don't believe a healthy relationship will ever exist between my clients and their plates if they are living with lists of restrictions, labeling food choices as good or bad, or if they are generally not enjoying themselves. I work with my clients to inspire them to create their own version of a happy, healthy life. We work together in a way that is flexible, fun and rewarding while eating foods that nourish your body as well as your soul! If you are ready look at food in a new way, and learn the habits for looking and feeling fabulous then you are in the right place... and I am thrilled to have you here! Most of us don't know just how amazing our bodies are really designed to feel! How it feels to have: Clarity and focus Steady, even energy all day long To have enthusiasm and excitement every day Health and vitality that is the envy of your friends Transition into a healthy lifestyle you can live with and leave those old habits behind! Clean Eating! It's about letting go of what doesn't serve your body (emotionally and physically) and reclaiming your Health and Vitality!
