Big News for Youth in Western NL! 🎉

We are excited to share that the Becket Integrated Youth Services (IYS) Hub in Western NL began providing services on Wednesday, April 1, 2026! 🙌

With the goal of improving youth well-being, Becket Western NL is operated by Vine Place Community Centre in Corner Brook in partnership with Choices for Youth and NL Health Services. Becket Western NL offers youth aged 12 to 29 free clinical and wrap-around supports in the areas of Mental Health, Primary Care, Housing, Employment, and Community.

An international best practice model, Becket Western NL is the second hub in our province in a planned network of several hub sites across NL, marking an important step toward providing low barrier, youth centred supports for youth and families, closer to the places they call home.

About last weekend ✨️

We opened our doors for our Perinatal Open House, and our hearts are so full of gratitude. 💛

To everyone who took the time to come by, ask questions, share stories, and learn more about perinatal mental health — thank you. Your presence reminded us just how powerful community can be.

The journey into parenthood is beautiful, but it can also be overwhelming, isolating, and filled with questions that many people are afraid to ask out loud. Events like this matter because they create space for honest conversations, connection, and support.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by individuals who value a community that cares deeply about the wellbeing of parents and babies. Every conversation, every shared experience, and every new connection made helps strengthen the village that families deserve.

To the families, professionals, and supporters who joined us — thank you for being part of this work and for helping us continue the conversation about perinatal mental health. 🤍

We are so proud to be building a community where parents feel seen, supported, and never alone.

Thinking about joining us at our Perinatal Open House?

Curious about who you will meet when you walk through the door?

Let us introduce ourselves 👋

✨️ Chelsea is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, Qualifying for the Certification in Birth and Reproductive Trauma and the owner of Teleia Counselling and Wellness. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance of NL. Chelsea has spent the last decade working with individuals with diagnosis and since having her own children has taken a lifespan approach. Chelsea's goal is to support parents in the early days of the journey, from pre-conception to the fourth trimester. She also supports healthy family dynamics and counselling for children and youth.

Chelsea's interest in the prenatal & perinatal world began when she had her own children - three girls currently 7, 6 and 1 - and had the privilege to experience the shift into becoming a parent and all the wonderful and challenging moments that it entails - specifically through lived experience with perinatal mental health.

✨️ Leanne is a registered social worker located in Western Newfoundland. She completed her Bachelor of Social Work from Memorial University in 2013. Her work experience as a social worker has primarily focused on working with children, youth and their families. She also volunteers with a Perinatal Mental Health Hub in our province to provide peer support to those in need.

Leanne is a mom of two , a 6 year old and 3 year old. Due to her own lived experience with perinatal mental health, both throughout a complicated pregnancy and following infant loss, she is passionate about providing support, education and resources to others in our community

Stop by our office tomorrow - 51 West Street, Suite 302 from 12:30 -2:30 - to have some snacks, coffee & chat more about how we can collectively build strong supports for our perinatal community 🤍

Hi everyone, the Community Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) and community partners are hosting a Winter Wellness Fest at the Corner Brook Civic Center, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. This is a free event for all ages.

This year’s theme is “Breaking the Ice,” a metaphor in mental health promotion, representing the intentional act of shattering the stigma, silence, and isolation surrounding mental health struggles. Breaking the ice involves initiating uncomfortable but necessary conversations to move from a state of cold, isolated "freezing" to the "warmth" of connection and support.

We invite everyone to visit the interactive booths at the Winter Wellness Fest to: sip some tea, create some art, learn some grounding techniques, sample some healthy snacks, gather mental health and wellness information, and more.

Hope to see you there!

Perinatal mental health is not an individual issue — it’s a community one.

Collective care means we move beyond asking, “Are you okay?” and start creating spaces where honest answers are welcome. It means normalizing conversations about anxiety, mood changes, intrusive thoughts, exhaustion, identity shifts, grief, and overwhelm — not just celebrating the highlight reel.

Starting these conversations matters. Because when we talk openly about perinatal mental health, we reduce shame. We help parents recognize they’re not failing — they’re human. And we remind one another that support doesn’t have to wait until someone is in crisis.

In a region as close-knit as ours, small conversations can have a big impact. Checking in on a new parent. Sharing resources. Saying, “Me too.” Making room for vulnerability. These moments are how collective care begins.

Join us for a few chats, refreshments and help us tailor our programming to ensure we are able to meet the needs of each new parent. So we can show up how and when you need

Let’s keep talking. Let’s keep listening. And let’s continue building a Western NL where parents feel supported — emotionally, mentally, and collectively — from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.

💛
