Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day.

Globally, 1 in 5 mothers & birthing-persons are affected by perinatal mood disorders. Here in NL, this number increases to 1 in 4.

Today we celebrate World Maternal Mental Health Day in Corner Brook.

Pregnancy and childbirth, or adoption, and the infant's first year of life should be a period of joy and bonding for the entire family.

28% of mothers in Newfoundland and Labrador will experience a significant mood disorder during and after pregnancy, possibly leading for a more severe mental illness.

Untreated these can lead to premature labour, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, increased risks of obstetrical complications, lower breastfeeding rates and poor fetal and infant outcomes.

The Perinatal Mental Health Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador has been created to improve the care provided for those parents dealing with mood disorders.

Big News for Youth in Western NL! 🎉

We are excited to share that the Becket Integrated Youth Services (IYS) Hub in Western NL began providing services on Wednesday, April 1, 2026! 🙌

With the goal of improving youth well-being, Becket Western NL is operated by Vine Place Community Centre in Corner Brook in partnership with Choices for Youth and NL Health Services. Becket Western NL offers youth aged 12 to 29 free clinical and wrap-around supports in the areas of Mental Health, Primary Care, Housing, Employment, and Community.

An international best practice model, Becket Western NL is the second hub in our province in a planned network of several hub sites across NL, marking an important step toward providing low barrier, youth centred supports for youth and families, closer to the places they call home.

We look forward to seeing you at Becket Western NL! 👏
