Meet Dr. Dan Belliveau – RLE Specialist & General Ophthalmologist

Dr. Belliveau is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dalhousie University. With over 20 years of experience and more than 30,000 cataract and refractive surgeries performed, he is recognized as a leader in his field.

After completing his medical degree at Université de Montréal and ophthalmology residency at Université de Sherbrooke, Dr. Belliveau has remained committed to both patient care and surgical education, playing an active role in training the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Known for his skilled and compassionate approach, he brings exceptional expertise to every patient he sees. Outside of work, he enjoys hockey, snowboarding, and tennis.

Meet Dr. Xavier Campos-Möller – Cataract, Glaucoma & Advanced Anterior Segment Surgeon

Dr. Campos-Möller has led the Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment division at Western Memorial Regional Hospital since 2016. His training includes advanced fellowships in Mexico City and the University of Toronto under Dr. Ike Ahmed, and he now provides highly specialized care in cataract surgery, complex anterior segment procedures, and glaucoma surgery.

He has published more than 20 scientific papers and is the author of the best-selling textbook Illustrated Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery.

Dr. Campos-Möller is also dedicated to global outreach, performing thousands of surgeries on humanitarian missions around the world.

Meet Dr. Mostafa Hanout – Vitreoretinal Specialist at Apex Surgical

We are proud to have Dr. Hanout as part of our ophthalmology team here in Western Newfoundland. His training spans world-renowned institutions across Egypt, the United States, and Canada, with advanced expertise in retinal disease, uveitis, and vitreoretinal surgery.

His journey includes fellowship training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, clinical research leadership at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and advanced surgical fellowships at the University of Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital.

Since joining Western Health, NL in 2019, Dr. Hanout has brought exceptional skill, deep clinical knowledge, and compassionate patient care to the region. He has authored more than 30 scientific publications, contributing meaningful advancements to the field of ophthalmology.

Meet Dr. Justin French – Medical Director, Apex Surgical

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Dr. French brings over a decade of advanced ophthalmic surgical experience to our province. After completing his medical training across Canada — including a Surgical Retina Fellowship at UBC — he returned home in 2011 to serve patients in Western Newfoundland and Labrador.

Dr. French specializes in cataract and refractive lens exchange (RLE) surgery and is dedicated to improving access to timely eye care, particularly in rural and remote regions.
