Forest fire season is now in effect on the Island of Newfoundland until September 30, 2026.

Restrictions on outdoor burning and certain activities are in place to reduce the risk of wildfires to protect people, property, and natural resources. More info: https://www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2026/fal/0501n04/

A permit is required to burn vegetation, brush, wood, paper products or other flammable material during Forest Fire Season. Burn permits are free and available from provincial Forest Management District offices. Find your local office here: https://www.gov.nl.ca/fal/department/contact-forestry/

Always check local municipal bylaws before burning.

To report a wildfire, call 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).

Go Nursing students!
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CM7qbk1C8/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Nursing students are learning the foundations of a healthy population. 🩺

As part of their Community Health Nursing course, students Amanda Buckle (Corner Brook), Emma Smith (D***o), and Carly Taylor (Labrador City) worked with the Association of New Canadians (ANC), St. Anthony office. Through research and conversations, they learned that navigating health care in Newfoundland can be challenging for new Canadians.

The students created a pamphlet in collaboration the ANC to provide information on health care services such as 811- Healthline, Patient Connect, Medicuro, and applying for an MCP.

The team’s goal is to make these services more easily accessible for New Canadians in Newfoundland. 👏

Make your voice count in health care
The NLHS Youth Advisory Council is looking for youth voices to step up as patient and family experience advisors. This is your chance to share your perspective, speak up about what works (and what doesn’t), and help shape how health care is delivered across the province.

Make your voice count in health care

Have you or someone you care about received health care in Newfoundland and Labrador? Your experience matters—and it can help make care better for other young people and families.

The Youth Advisory Council is looking for youth voices to step up as patient and family experience advisors. This is your chance to share your perspective, speak up about what works (and what doesn’t), and help shape how health care is delivered across the province.

As an advisor, you’ll work alongside health-care teams to make sure youth and family voices are included in important decisions about the future of care.

Your voice can make a real difference.
