Every fall, caribou migrate across the landscape in Gros Morne National Park and beyond - from the park highlands to lowland and forested areas. 🦌
Caribou frequent heavy-traffic areas along route 430 near Green Point, Western Brook Pond, St. Paul`s and Cow Head and along route 431 in Trout River Gulch. Caribou from the Gros Morne herd also migrate all the way to the Howley area, which means they are often seen on or near the Trans-Canada Highway – over 50 kilometres from the national park!
Since caribou don't know the rules of the road, they are at risk of getting injured and killed on the highway while they journey to their overwintering areas. As drivers, please do your part to keep them safe - whether you are inside or outside Gros Morne National Park. Be sure to slow down and watch for wildlife while driving. Help ensure the caribou herds of Gros Morne National Park stay safe and healthy for years to come. 💚
