On a cold February 9, 1897, the foundresses - Mother Margaret Donnelly and Sisters Amabel McCarthy, Anne Hopkins, Janet Macdonell and Margaret Powers - arrived from Kingston on the four o'clock train, accompanied by Bishop Alexander Macdonell.
The new arrivals' first visit was to St. Columban's Church, where they prayed for the success of their new foundation.
There was much hard work to be done to ready the hospital building for patients. The main building was 52 by 32 feet, the wing was 42 by 30 feet and the kitchen was 24 by 40 feet. The rooms were large and well ventilated. Pictured here is Ivy Hall -- the location of Cornwall's first hospital in 1897.
Par temps froid, le 9 février 1897, les fondatrices, mère Margaret Donnelly et les soeurs Amabel McCarthy, Anne Hopkins, Janet Macdonell et Margaret Powers, arrivaient de Kingston par le train de quatres heures, accompagnées de leur évêque, Mgr Alexander Macdonell.
Les arrivantes se rendirent d'abord à l'église St. Columban afin d'y prier pour le succès de leur nouvelle fondation.
Il y avait beaucoup à faire avant que l'hôpital puisse recevoir des malades. L'édifice principal mesurait 15,6 mètres sur 9,6 mètres; l'aile, 12,6 mètres sur 9 mètres; et la cuisine, 7,2 mètres sur 12 mètres. Les pièces étaient grandes et bien aérées.
