Today, December 21, marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The word solstice comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning “sun stands still”—and from here on, the days slowly begin to grow longer again.

Many cultures around the world have celebrated this moment for centuries with festivals of light, warmth, and renewal. It’s also the perfect evening for a little stargazing, with Orion, Ta**us, and Gemini shining brightly in the winter sky.

Here’s to brighter days ahead! 🌟

12/20/2025

The holidays can be joyful. But they can also be hard. If you’re feeling lonely, overwhelmed, or coping with loss this season, you’re not alone.

211 can help you find local supports like mental health services, community programs, and places to connect with others.
