Children's Treatment Centre - Cornwall Ontario

Children's Treatment Centre - Cornwall Ontario The Children’s Treatment Centre is a community based, community supported agency committed to the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

We provide free and immediate assessment and treatment to any child in need and that child’s family. OUR PROGRAMS

The Centre provides three (3) programs for children and adolescents. The First Program – operated by the Centre is for children and adolescents, five (5) to seventeen (17) years who have been physically and/or sexually abused. They receive assessment and counseling services to recover from the traumatic effects of the abuse they suffered. The goal of our first program is to help children who have been sexually or physically abused overcome the psychologically negative impact of abuse through comprehensive, professional assessment and counseling at the Centre and continue to developmentally progress in a healthy manner, without the effects of abuse impeding this development. The Second Program – at the Centre provides assessment and counseling services to adolescents, twelve (12) to seventeen (17) years who have committed sexual offences against young children. Adolescent males, twelve to seventeen years old, who have committed sexual offences against younger children, will receive comprehensive clinical assessment to determine if they will benefit from treatment to prevent them from committing further sexual offences against young children. If the youth is considered able to benefit from treatment, he will receive counseling to prevent further sexual offending as an adult. The Third Program – is for children ages five (5) to eleven (11) years who are sexually reactive or sexually aggressive towards same age peers. In September 2011, as a result of request from various community agencies, the Centre started an additional service for sexually aggressive/sexually reactive children. This is a prevention program aimed at helping children between the ages of 5 and 11 years who have engaged in sexually aggressive behaviours towards peers.

WELCOME, Kimly!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kimly Thivierge as the Supervisor of Clinical Services, effective Monday December 8, 2025. In addition to her supervisory duties, Kimly will also be providing counselling to children and youth.

Kimly is a seasoned clinical leader and Registered Social Worker with over 27 years of experience in child welfare, trauma-informed care, domestic violence–informed practice, and organizational leadership. She has led multidisciplinary teams with compassion and clarity, specializing in high-risk child protection forensic and family services teams, and complex, holistic domestic violence informed service teams.

A certified trainer with the Safe & Together Institute, Kimly is the only Ontario-based professional authorized to deliver Safe & Together Academy programming and has trained organizations across North America in domestic and gender-based violence–informed practices.

Kimly also spearheaded the transformation of Ontario’s Purple Ribbon Campaign for Child Abuse Prevention, evolving it from a series of local events into a collective, province-wide initiative later endorsed by the Ministry. Guided by integrity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to child and family well-being, she continues to advance trauma-informed, equitable systems of care through both leadership and private clinical practice.

Bilingual, Kimly has been proud to call the Cornwall community home since the age of three. Having raised her family here, she is deeply rooted in her community and committed to creating a safer, more supportive environment for children, youth and families.

St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School has been a longstanding supporter of the Children’s Treatment Centre, generously contributing each year through a school-based activity. This year, the “Panthers” donated $1,404.65, raised through their dress-down day.
