At These Hands School of Massage we believe that a dynamic therapist is one who combines knowledge and excellent bodywork with a deep honoring of the transformational energy of touch. Through a comprehensive program of study that carefully balances the art and science of therapeutic massage, the program strives to enrich the lives of its students. By empowering students with knowledge and understanding of the human body, they will be able to speak intelligently and professionally to their clients and other health care practitioners about the importance of massage therapy in preventive and palliative care. Think private practice, clinical environments, sports massage, trauma-informed care, wellness coaching, teaching, and even complementary work like nervous system or mind-body modalities. Many therapists evolve their careers over time, blending hands-on work with education, leadership, or specialized services.

She loved helping people, but touch scared her 🌱

What if you could understand what someone’s body is saying without ever speaking? 🤔

Massage school trains students to observe subtle, nonverbal cues like breathing patterns, tissue texture, muscle guarding, and movement habits. This education teaches you how to “listen” with your hands and eyes, developing awareness that most people never learn.

Over time, this skill becomes second nature. You learn how stress, injury, and emotion show up physically, allowing sessions to be more precise and responsive. Massage school teaches perception, presence, and a deeper understanding of the human body that lasts a lifetime!

A massage therapist once saved a man’s life… that therapist was me 😱

I’m Jenifer, owner of These Hands School of Massage, and one of my most powerful reminders of why I do what I do came from a 96-year-old client. He came in, ready for his massage, and casually mentioned that he’d dropped a wooden bank on his shin but said, “It’s healing fine.” Something in me knew I needed a closer look, so I stopped the massage, turned on the big light, and pulled back the covers.

What I saw was not “healing fine” at all. I called the person who brought him and insisted that he be taken straight to the emergency room. He was furious about missing his massage, but they took him anyway. At the hospital, they discovered he had an infection that had spread into his blood. They told him that if he’d waited even one more hour, he would have died. That day reinforced something I deeply believe: massage isn’t just relaxation. When we know our clients’ bodies well, we become an extra set of eyes that might just save a life.

I built my massage business on free work, chocolate, and radical generosity 💃

I’m Jenifer, owner of These Hands School of Massage, and I didn’t build this place on fancy marketing or big startup money. I built it by giving away a lot of free chair massages at local events and showing up again and again until people knew they could trust me with their pain. It took about a year of serving first before things really took off, and my schedule started to fill.

That servant-hearted mindset flows into how I run my team today. My subcontractors keep 100% of their tips, I work hard to pay them well, and yes, I keep the chocolate dish full! People laugh and say that’s why they stay, but to me, it’s symbolic. I want this to be a place where therapists feel cared for, appreciated, and supported 🫶
