Tuesday 3:30pm Broken Squirrel Wellness Core26 (means 26 Hatha Yoga postures that are the core of this specific Yoga series from Bishnu Ghosh Lineage w/Tony Sanchez as the guiding Master Practitioner and Educator of Teachers. The Core26 postures ARE a beginner/or chosen practice done with empathy, compassion and props for individual needs with modifications from me, Julie Cook, your IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist.

Ultimately, your biomechanics are where we dive in to. This supports healing and sustainability over time. This is not about being bendy nor is it about a shape that looks a certain way. This is about functional movement patterns and whether yours are sustainable over time or whether pain is the feedback.

This Hatha practice with me as your guide is done with an awareness of pain(whispers/yellow lights) and all that may be tied into it with each individual. Instead of pain management, you will be guided into down regulation of your nervous system through simpler movements called Hatha Yoga postures.

While Core 26 is not 'simple movement' in nature, it lessens the action by not being in motion(Flow of any kind other then the internal breath, ease of stillness and of course your heartbeat).

The stillness held in a postures gives room for connection to the quality of your movement and the sustainability of the quality of your movement.

Hatha Yoga is a foundational branch of yoga focusing on aligning the body and mind through physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama-of which there are many), and meditation. The origin of yoga is from India. This part of yoga is know as “yoga of force” or “effort”.......Side note: That does not mean to force with intentional violence or aggression and that is a vast subject on many levels.

Your effort is designed to balance solar (ha) and lunar (tha) opposite energies we carry within us. Opposing forces govern the universe through physics and this applies in Hatha and all yoga practices too through our biology. Yes, yoga is science.

Modern Hatha Yoga classes are typically slower-paced, focusing on holding in stillness and breathing normally to build strength, flexibility, mobility, focus, balance and a big stress release. Additionally Hatha Yoga acts as preparation for deeper meditation and higher states of consciousness.

Hatha Yoga is slower and longer holds ideally for those who are beginners, those who have experienced deep emotional and physical traumas and for those with poor movements patterns and pain signals are high.

Hatha Yoga slows things down so you can connect to subtle sensation and simpler movement patterns that will help unlock layers of compensation that cause pain signals that further into dis-ease that then becomes disease.

1)Are you really listening to your body?
2)Is your mind/body connection truly online for you?
3)Have you ever tried yoga and its fallen flat?
4)Have you tried yoga and you found yourself hurt?
5)Have you tried yoga and it just didn't catch you?

Come visit with me. While it's not for everyone or all the time, maybe it was not the right fit for you at the time. Hatha Yoga can help rewire your brain and your body's communication back to you through sensation. Yes, there's far more to it than this but let’s start here for now.

First month at Broken Squirrel Wellness is $77 in the Yoga Studio! This studio has highly qualified Yoga Teachers, Yoga Therapists and any kind of rehabilitation alternative and allopathic certified and licensed practitioners who support in this facility if needed. Often many are covered by your extended/paramedical insurance benefits too!

Julie Cook's EMYT @ Broken Squirrel Wellness Offerings this week July21-27, 2025
1)Wednesday- 2:15pm(45min)-Yoga Nidra(covering for Tina)-I will be verbally guiding you into total relaxation and exploration into the emotional and energetic body that is not cognitive or tangible. This wonderful practice takes the bite out of life and gives you time to set other things aside for your wellness and chill time(aka me time). If you have not tried it yet......... this is a treat for sure!
2)Thursday 815am(60min) Yoga Therapy for Back Care(covering for Tina)-Targeting back pain and aching. This class you spend mostly reclined and seated learning about how your simple movement patterns feel in your body. We isolate 2 segments and feel. We slow things down and feel the inequities and imbalances in our movement patterns. Yoga Therapy is very powerful in discovery of your simple movement patterns that play directly into your complicated movement patterns which includes simply walking. Walking is not simple. It's a very complex movement pattern. Similar to watching slow mo video. You feel the slow mo and you rewire your brain thus rewiring your central nervous system and the game of aches and pain shift. Your relationship shifts with you and your nervous system.
3)Thursday 12:15pm Chair Yoga(60min)-Lunch hour reset on the aches and pains from life. What we do can carry over into your office job or driving job. Giving you ways to support yourself not just a few times a week but also when you're in your job and aches and pains take over.
4)Friday 2:15pm(75min) Yoga Therapy Group Session-Same as #2
5)Sunday 12Noon(75min)Yoga Therapy Group Session-Same as #2

This week July 13-20……
Me, Julie Cook is Teaching
Wednesday
4:30pm Bikram Yoga.
The Studio Comox Valley

Come sweat it out. Glowing skin. Clean pores. Clean innards. Detox all the systems of your body and feel wonderful inside and outside. DM me if you’ve tried it and you’re on the fence about it. DM me if you’ve done it and hated it. DM me if you’re not getting results and you’ve done it. DM me if you’ve gotten hurt in the heat and you’re like…… ‘I don’t get it’. My first class I was mad as hell! I was post motor vehicle accident with 9 herniations and a brain injury. I was humiliated as I was in pain, constipated and 14 days without a bowel movement I looked 6 months pregnant! I woke up the next day with a flat belly, clear brain and bowels! Thats what metaphorically drove me back in over and over(metaphorical because I walked and cycled in and began training triathlons at that time)

Anyhow, please reach out and feel free to share your stories privately. Your story is safe with me You cannot shock me. Let’s have a discussion and let me hear your woes. The yoga works. The heat is a tool, not a weapon. There are incredibly bizarre and wonderful things that can happen with this series in the warmth.

I’m still in recovery myself from an accident and it’s not the first time this practice has brought me back to myself.

While I am a long time Certified Bikram Yoga Teacher, I am also a Certified Yoga Therapist. I can tune up the fine details of your simple movements and support isolating patterns that may be in the way of your progress/growth. It’s also possible that these patterns may be below your level of awareness at this time. Even if you’re a long time practitioner. 778-384-9642 or messenger!

See you in the hot room!

This week July 7-13th at The Studio Comox Valley, I am your Wednesday Guide in both 9:30am and 4:30pm classes. I look forward to seeing you and supporting you in connecting to your body’s optimal natural mobility.

Check out this tidbit about Summer heat and self care support practicing hot yoga……….

This applies whether you are indoors or outside. Summer time Heat & Humidity is wonderful AND equally dehydrating……this can sneak up on you! You may find yourself sweating at low levels and not realize how low your mineral reserves are in your body. Heck…..ad peri/menopause into the picture and holy crapoli!!!! You’re a walking twitch……with cramping feet and leg muscles and who knows where else……once you know…… you cannot un-know…….

Be sure to drink fluids/electrolytes/minerals. There are many ways to support yourself. Home remedies are nice:

1)Maple Syrup/Sea Salt-1 Tsp/Tbsp Grade A Maple Syrup(not TOO generous or its overwhelming during class) and a large pinch of any kind of sea salt in your 12-16oz bottle for yoga. Tastes like a salted caramel and it’s satiating!!! Who doesn’t want a treat during yoga class?!?!?!

2)The other one I love is Honey, Lemon, Ginger. 1 Tsp/tbsp of honey. Give a good 1/4 lemon squeeze(I was never great at following recipes-I free pour) and 1/2 tsp of ginger(that I do not pour freely…. oooph, hahaha). This is scrumptious and very satiating for your blood sugar, immune system, vocal chords and overall mineral replacement. It supports cognitive and physical well being while practicing.

Forgot your home remedies or just don’t wanna carry it through your day?!?!?! Worry no more……..Sandy at The Studio Comox Valley has options with Emergen-C, Kombucha, Vitamin Water and my favourite LMNT(Yum!!!). So worry not if you forget your water OR your electrolytes. She’s got your back at every level with mat, towel, shower towel, water and electrolytes. Heck if you lose your yoga shorts on the way to class she’s got those too!

Please be sure in the Summer heat that you stay aware of how you feel. Fluid intake AND mineral intake matters ongoing while we are at this point until late into Fall.

Side note:

Did you know you can drink too much water?!? Who woulda thunk it?!?! Did you know that drinking too much water will flush out minerals? This is something you learn to connect to once it’s above your level of awareness. We will help you with this along the way. You can also DM me on my cell (778-384-9642) or on messenger(Julie Cook{Tomson}). It’s part of mastering your yoga practice that will take time. No worries, we are here to support you in this. See you soon in the hot room!
