Over time our work takes on new form. We discover, learn, integrate, grow. I have always been a bit of a hungry soul. Stagnation being an uncomfortable place for me, I have found that continuously re-inventing myself provides a fresh way to meet myself new at each chapter of my life. And here we are again. A new chapter. A new clinic. New tools in the tool kit. New me.
When I was in university, we read Walt Whitman’s “I Sing the Body Electric”, and I was immediately captivated by the title. After dismantling the poem itself, I understood it to be an ecstatic celebration of the human form, proclaiming that the physical body is sacred, divine, and inseparable from the soul. It challenged 19th-century traditions by highlighting the body as a powerful, democratic vessel of life, energy, and connector between all beings. Whitman argued that the body is not just a container for the soul, but is the soul itself, making physical existence a spiritual experience. The title uses "electric" to represent the vibrant life force, dynamism, and almost magical energy within human flesh, reflecting emerging scientific ideas of the time.
One of my teachers once said that acupuncturists are “human electricians”. As practitioners, we are working directly with the nervous system, activating the piezoelectricity of the fascia, sitting in communion with the mysterious and dynamic life force of the whole human - body, mind and spirit.
This next chapter of my professional life includes the offering of Craniosacral Therapy, a modality that I have been so grateful to learn and implement into my practice. This practice of deep listening works to release restrictions and holding patterns created by the body as a result of physical and emotional stressors that compromise nervous system function. Using light touch manual techniques to release constraints, we can allow the entire body to relax, release, and self-correct. This approach works cohesively and seamlessly with acupuncture, and I'm so excited to offer these two practices individually, or as a team.
As I move forward with my new space, adding beautiful tools to my current practice, I am please to share my new clinic name, The Body Electric. I will continue to humbly offer heart-centred, classically focused acupuncture treatments, and now also Craniosacral Therapy. I look forward to sharing space with you ❤️
