Find rest in the rush: part 3 - the floor.

Today was a busy day. On these days it's even more important to check in with the body. Mid afternoon, on my drive back home from an errand, I could feel my neck muscles aching, my body needing rest.

The first thing that I did when I got home was set a timer for 5 mins and laid on the floor.

Just 5 mins and I felt a shift. Less ache, more energy, ready to continue the day.

Rest doesn't have to take big amounts of time. Simple practices like this can have big impact in our capacities.

Earth Day can be a reminder that we belong to a rhythm.🌿

We often treat the Earth as a resource to be used, much like we treat our own bodies. But today, we can practice a different way of being.

Nature not only teaches us, it is a mirror that reminds us of the rhythms we often forget we belong to. It doesn’t stay in peak productivity year-round. It breathes, it sheds, it has patience, and it rests deeply so it can bloom again.

Today, can you find 5 minutes to put your phone away and just be with the Earth? Notice the air, the light, and the ground beneath you - maybe even put your bare feet in some grass!

Finding rest in the rush: 2 - the kettle moment.

A reminder that you don't have to find time for a nap or make space to read in order to have rest. It can be found in the 2-4 minutes it takes for water to boil. Choosing to be for a moment in a busy day instead of do, do, do.

Try it! Even if you are in an office and get odd looks at first, maybe you will end up starting a trend.

Finding rest in little ways like this throughout your day will help your focus, and energy.

For almost a year I didn't have the energy to run. And if I did I found myself recovering from it for up to 3 days! Which made me wish I hadn't run in the first place; it was a double-edged sword, so eventually I just stopped trying.

But slowly I started to crave exercise again and learned my edges, testing my physical capacity and being mindful to not over do it.

This week when I went on a run, it felt amazing! And although I had sore muscles after, I wasn't flat out on my couch or so depleted my mind couldn't work properly.

During my run I made a point to slow myself down at the half way point and take in my surroundings. The birds were singing, the sunlight streaming through the trees, and the air had that feeling of spring, with summer on the horizon.

If you are struggling with depletion and exhaustion, your life and your body may not feel like they used to. Know that things can and will shift. If you need support, reach out. I've been there and created The Rest Uncovered Method as a guide because sometimes a map helps when we are running through life.

Rest Uncovered is on the road soon to connect in-person at a workshop hosted by .yogastudio in East Vancouver. Come to learn a new way to rest, by how you feel and what your body is asking for, a specific area of rest for deeper restoration.

This 2.5 hour workshop will teach The Rest Uncovered Method of 5 phases and 5 areas of rest through sharing, simple practices and permission to truly rest. A closing sequence of Mindful Yin Yoga will have you grounded in your body and floating out the door. 🪶
