One of the first questions people often ask me is "how on earth do you listen to people complain all day?" First, let me tell you - people don't complain all day. I cringe when I hear that! People bring me their pain. They want to understand why others have treated them the way they did, or how to m...

I've been hoping to get back into writing, so here goes my first post.

I'm always so sad for people who cry in my presence, then apologize as if they are doing something wrong. I am always quick to say, "Your tears are welcome here." But here is what I really wish I had time to say: I LOVE seeing tears. Tears mean we have reached a sacred place, where you are really li...

Hey guys!

Taking a moment to reintroduce myself! I'm Leslie - the face behind Along The Way Counselling.

It was always my dream to be a therapist and I can honestly say I enjoy my career so much. People often ask, "How do you do this for a living?" It's an easy answer for me - it is amazing to see people have moments of growth and change, watching old habits die for good, and seeing people grow and reach new potentials.

To sit with someone in their biggest pain, grief, fear or shame is the highest honour I've ever been given. To be invited into their healing journey is something I never take for granted. I think my clients are some of the most amazing people I've ever met. I'd love to be a part of your journey, too.

One of the things I catch people doing often is short changing themselves or speaking down about them self. Even in a joking manner, these words have consequences.

Pay attention and see if you catch yourself doing it.

Instead of critical words, try showing yourself kindness. For example, "ugh I am so stupid. I always do this!" Can be shifted to, "ugh. This is frustrating when this happens but I'm trying" for example.

Spend this week speaking kindly to yourself and I promise you won't regret it. 🙂

Have you ever considered starting psychotherapy? I would love to have a chat. My in person hours are booking quickly, but I would love to have some more virtual clients! This works great for those working from home, travelling a distance or just experiencing anxiety around therapy in general. PM me, email me, or click to schedule. I'd love to chat more!
