The Full Circle: 21
•
Time is a funny thing. It can feel like a lifetime has passed, yet some moments feel as fresh as yesterday. In some ways you broke me open, in the best way my greatest growth.
•
Twenty-one years ago, on Mother’s Day, I was twenty-one years old, holding the greatest gift I’d ever been given. Today, as my son turns twenty-one himself, I am overwhelmed by the intensity of that “full circle” moment.
•
From the first set of pink lines on the stick, I knew I was having a boy. Choosing to be a mother despite the darkness in how he came to be wasn’t an easy path—but he became my light. I have never hidden the difficult beginnings of our story, because out of that pain came the most incredible young man. Watching his journey of self-discovery, resilience, and strength has been nothing short of a miracle.
Our journey has been a series of beautiful shifts.
•
While we shared so many adventures in those early years, the road truly expanded when my husband entered our lives. He chose to step in and be the dad he didn’t have to be. Navigating parenting with him is a gift I never take for granted; he is the steady voice reminding me that we did a good job, and that our son is ready to flourish in this big world.
•
We have faced trials and tribulations that would have broken others, but we never gave up. Today, I watch him pave his own path with fierce determination, knowing he never forgets his roots.
•
To my son:
Thank you for choosing me to be your mom, and on Mother’s Day of all days! Watching you navigate the world on your own is my greatest pride, and I am cheering you on—always. No matter how far you go, this home will always be your safe place to land.
Happy 21st Birthday.
